Comments Thread For: Darchinyan Offers No Excuses Over Donaire Defeat

On Saturday night, Vic Darchinyan came close to avenging his 2007 knockout loss to Nonito Donaire. After eight rounds of action, Darchinyan was way up on two of three scorecards in his rematch with Donaire at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. But during the ninth Darchinyan got caught by a big counter that put him down and he never recovered.

At the time of the stoppage, Darchinyan was up 78-74 on two cards and the third judge had it a draw. Donaire improved to 32-2 with his 20th knockout, and Darchinyan fell to 39-6-1

WOW Darchinyan accepting defeat! LOL Never thought I'd see it.

On a serious note: Darchinyan is a little pitbull. The type of guy you want on your side in a brawl lol. He looked great, fast and powerful, I had him winning up until the KO. Nothing but respect for a true scrapper like Darchinyan.

darchinyan lost the exact same way to donaire, a left hook to the face while on the attack. ya know the old saying, fool me once, could just be bad luck but fool me twice, then it has nothing to do with luck

Vic was giving him shades of Rigo in there, lol.

The way Donaire came with the knockout, it didn't even seem planned/calculated.. he just knew he needed it and taking a loss from the guy you KOd to earn your first major title would be embarrassing.

Vic got caught with the same punch in the first fight. This was definitely not the same Donaire we're used to seeing. That fight with Rigo has definitely lowered his confidence. I had him losing up until he finally decided to let his hands go and got the TKO.

If you know that left hook is coming at you all night, you would think Vic would be able to keep his right hand high for 10 rounds. He only had 2 rds left. Easier said than done obviously. But I feel Vic did better than what was expected and the complete opposite for Donaire.

Old habits die hard. Darc did his best to fight a cautious, disciplined fight, but that killer mentality did him in at the end. He probably wanted a KO bad. Vengeance can blind a man's reasoning.

Not even sure what this means. You can't just choose when you want a knockout. It has to just happen. You can however turn up the urgency.
