Duckers are everywhere! That's shame... Murray is one of them.
I think it has to do with the Promoters Boxers are fearless you can tell a 108 pound to fighter would fight a 200 pound dude in an alley fight if he had to

Thats what you get when everyone looks after mayweather's winning formula... dont fight boxers in their prime, wait for them to go downhill & then fight them. Like mayweather says "self preservation is key/safety 1st".

How you can call Murray, who is just coming off of a hard fought loss against the best middleweight since Hopkins is madness, add to that he also fought both Martinez AND Sturm in their home countries, that is not what a "duck" does.

In terms of your question, there definitely seems to be more fighters over the last 15-20 years who have avoided the best. It may be because they are afraid or because fighting a parallel path as champion is more beneficial than facing your toughest rival. Especially in this age of multiple title belts, where you can make as much money as a PPV "star" fighting nobodies. It's sadly the way boxing works now.

In the 70s and much of the 80s for example and the decades before that, top guys fought each other because they HAD to, otherwise they could never be champion and make the big bucks.

If many of those fighters were fighting now, no matter if they were called Ali or Leonard or Duran or Foster, they wouldn't take the risks they had taken 3 decades earlier, simply because it is no longer necessary.

Necessity breeds courage.

I don't think there are as much "duckers" as people on here say. I mean people just end up nutriding or hating on fighters for no reason then they claim duck. Remember when 80% of the people on here was claiming garcia was scared and ducking Matthysse? Then after Garcia signs another 50% was still saying he was ducking him and only signed because of the "backlash".

Most people seem to think fights are made without negotiations.
fan ask for fights, and watch them at home on the couch.

fighters take punches to the head. you can die in there.
So you're saying that boxers make a career out of boxing but choose to duck dangerous fights because a concern of getting hurt and you're ok with that?

This is like baseball players saying they don't want to face certain pitchers because they throw to hard and don't want to risk getting hit by a pitch. Or football quarterbacks saying they don't want to play against a certain team because their linebackers hit too hard. Etc...

Plain and simple. If you're afraid of getting hit and hurt, then boxing is wrong profession for u.

Remember "these days" fans believe you should take a terrible financial contract to make a fight, or you're ducking. Most fans have NO sense of basic business, and think fighters should take bs contracts with absurd demands or of course they are ducking. Its not the fighters its the keyboard warriors. They ignore the fact that some fighters arent ready for who you as fan believe they should fight, and they should ignore boxing managers and promoters who live boxing, and take the advice of someone who just watches boxing every now and then and believe they know better. People like these are the ones th at would have your career like that of fernando vargas, and throw you into the lions den WAAAY to early because of arrogant fans who know nothing about the technicalities of boxing but pretend they are experts.

Murray will fight Golovkin, it's just a matter of time (and money).
Exactly this... the reason there are so many duckers in boxing is because the fans want boxers to fight 100 fights a year and if you don't meet all of them.... you're a ducker. That's the simple truth of why.

There are many reasons why duckers exist.

Promoters...

As seen with Bob Arum, a duck can be considered as 2 legit boxers not facing off, rather it be IE May Vs Manny, or etc, normally a boxer is blamed for the fall out of the fight, when his BOSS said no.

No official governing body of boxing, can you imagine if the NBA or NFL had no official governing body???? The Lakers would refuse to play the Miami Heat and the Miami Heat would attempt to play the easiest team to win a title.

With no official governing body over the entire sport, ducks easily get through the cracks.

Well the middleweights don't want to fight ggg because they don't want to get beat up and knocked out unless they get a lot of compensation for it, they're playing the waiting game, I expect after 2 or 3 years if ggg shows signs of deterioration and his name grows then these guys will be more keen to fight him.
I don't expect Martinez to ever fight ggg unfortunately. Maybe Martin Murray will after his next fight.

Good post, when I first discovered this site I was amused by the amount of "expert" boxing advice circulating around here.
