Makes sense. The Macau fights are replayed and a lot went wrong with the Argentina fight.
HBO did express interest in trying to pick up the Golovkin fight when he was planning to fight in December.... but probably just a replay

HBO isn't going to pay big money for another south American rating disaster tune-up.

I say good job on HBO here, fuck paying for tune ups.
It did that bad? Man... I don't even remember

HBO will not close the doors on this fight until they know for sure that cotto vs martinez cant be made. Its more so that they are trying to keep cotto on the network after having paid big for his last fight. If cotto walks, then id be sure HBO would insist on ggg and if that fails then we'd see rubio.

I can see that but now Martinez has already committed to taking a paycut to make the fight happen on another network. When you think about it, who is really losing out? Martinez takes a hit of a couple hundred thousand while HBO loses out on millions of opportunity costs by not showing the fight at all.

In another fight, Sergio is back on HBO and laughing all the way to the bank. They need him more than he needs them.

I'd rather see GGG vs Murray anyways

Martinez got a gift hometown decision and it was clear. HBO is doing the right thing by telling him to grow a pair and fight GGG or GTFO

Not necessarily. Martinez vs Murray in Argentina drew 696,000 HBO viewers

                HBO doesn't need Martinez

HBO does over 1 million view regularly and Martinez's last fight didn't even do 700,000 and he got a gift hometown decision

GGG vs Murray is for the real king at MW

Yeah but they also had what, almost 40K people at the event or something? I thought the numbers would have been higher than 6.96KK though for viewership. I know his fight with Chavez had a pretty high viewership....

put rubio and martinez at the alamodome and there will be lots of mexicans specially since rubios hometown is only 2 hrs driving from san antonio....

Is that why they signed him up to amulti-fight deal? If they didn't need him, they would sign him to a one fight deal. They wanted to tie him in so he didn't run to Showtime.

Dude is getting paid regardless.....1 mill instead of 1.7 mill or whatever while HBO pays two schlubs 450K each to get experience in there 10th pro fights. Meanwhile, the public has absolutely no idea who the hell these losers even are yet HBO thinks that is a good investment.
