This shot was a hole in one.
I've seen other angles of it, and he does have his eyes closed.
Every punch a fighter throws, he does intend to land, so the option in the poll doesn't make much sense. Of course he was trying to land it.
He loaded up on a big shot and threw it. They were both throwing at the same time and Roy ate it almost walking into it. He does not usually get hit with something that telegraphed, so he showed a lack of focus, or slowed reflex not being able to pull away.
Tarver deserves credit for a helluva shot, but there was some luck to how and where it landed the way it did for sure.Comment

it was lucky, because jones beat tarver to the punch. the only thing was, was that jones' punch landed a little behind and down on the neck, tarvers was in the perfect place. but had jones' punch been placed better and actually hit tarver on the jaw, then tarvers' punch wouldn't have had the same effect as it did.
it was one of those lucky punches in an exchange. happends all the time in fighting, it's apart of the game..........Comment

Originally posted by ChrististheAnswer2Alot of fighters close their eyes when they punch, I don't consider it luck. They throw but just outta of natural reaction they close their eyes. Marco Antonio Barrera does this from time to time and he is a tactical master.
When you throw, even if you throw blind, your still intending to land, so therefore it can't be luck if it lands. Its just that your probability of landing goes down throwing blind.
So, really, we agree, and its just a matter of the semantics of "luck."Comment

I've seen the replays thousands of times and in many angles, it shows that Tarver's eyes were completely shut when he threw that punch. What I gotta say is that every punch that you throw has a probability of landing. What made Tarver's punch so "lucky" was that even though he planned to throw that punch, he probably didn't know where it was going or if it was gonna land. It's one of those punches that just happened to land without any thought. As an example, if you shoot a basketball from the free throw line, the probability of going in the hoop is 50%, it either goes in or not. However if you shoot the ball blindfolded from the half court line, the probability of going in is still 50%. However if you get it in, it turns out to be "luck."Comment

For those who say it was "lucky"...
It takes two in there, guys. If it was such a ****** punch, than Roy's own ******ity played a part in it landing. Roy's own contribution to the punch landidng, & taking him out, takes a ton away from the "luck" factor.
If you're a Jones fan, & like to say it was "lucky" in some way to defend/excuse Roy....big mistake. He should have avoided this "garbage" punch.Comment
