    Tarver's Punch? Luck? {Video}

    Martin and Anorak, don't steal this for your web site.

    I read on the internet that a writer believes this was a blind punch that happened to land by Tarver.

    I disagree. I just think Tarver had his chin down and was willing to take a punch to land the big one against Roy.

    It was definitely a blind punch. I have the video at home. From a different angle you can clearly see that his eyes were closed when clocked Roy.

        It was planned to some extent but was a lucky punch. Thats at least what it looks like.

            Are you kidding, that was a perfectly timed shot. There are no lucky punches in boxing, you throw to land, and Tarver landed.

              I disagree completely. Throwing a "hail mary" punch with your eyes closed is lucky if it actually lands flush. Mayweathers punches aren't lucky. He lands with high accuracy because he keeps his eyes on the target and he has speed and technique. I seem to remember that Tarver punch looking like he was just throwing as hard as he could and hoping for the best. Any time you throw a punch there's a chance will land, but I'm not sure he really aimed on that one.

                i'm kind of torn on this one....

                Tarver did plan to throw the punch because he was throwing it as roy was throwing his lefthook....

                this is where idk if it was planned or not : Right after Roy lands his hook Tarver closes his eyes & puts his head down. his arm keeps delivering the punch & it lands clean....

                i voted planned, but i'm still not 100% sure

                  Alot of fighters close their eyes when they punch, I don't consider it luck. They throw but just outta of natural reaction they close their eyes. Marco Antonio Barrera does this from time to time and he is a tactical master.

                  When you throw, even if you throw blind, your still intending to land, so therefore it can't be luck if it lands. Its just that your probability of landing goes down throwing blind.

                    He seems to know where it's going, but from that angle it looks like a good punch.

                    What I'd like to see is if his eyes really ARE closed during the punch. I've never seen that before, but the person who said that might be joking.
