I should have been clearer, It's almost impossible to asses brain trauma at early stages. Hence the increased success of care since the massive improvements to imaging.
A simpler plan would be to prevent fights continuing as previously outlined.
I agree they should stops fights more regularly due to serious injury

Yes, I especially aplaud the way Terry O'Connor stopped this savage, and potentially career ending, beating of Peter Manfredo at the stone hands of Joe Calzaghe:

This should be a training video for all refs in UK and for the rest of the world

I suppose you had Manfredo winning!? Or you thought he'd go on to win had it not been stopped?
I think you are missing the point. Perhaps intentionally

Here's a classic hw battle of the 90's that reminds me somewhat of the Mago-Perez fight. George Foreman took an unbelievable amount of punishment in this fight and his face was basically a bloody bruised and swollen mess. I loved watching this fight - it was a blood 'n guts battle. Look at Foreman's face @ 3:15 in this vid. Based on the TS argument, this fight should have been stopped.

Undoubtedly we would not have some of the historical battles but we might still have a few less fatalities and brain injured boxers

Unfortunately fighters are still going to die/get damaged in the ring no matter what you do. There is no getting around a fist striking a skull.

Its up to the fighters to choose career over health, not us. They are the ones in the ring.

Stopping a fight early and denying a fighter his chance to achieve a lifetime goal--just because we at home feel bad--is another form of damage.

You could have arguably scored 4 rounds for Mago and with the point deduction this fight could have been scored a draw.

In hindsight, it's easy to say "the corner should have stopped this and prevented their fighter from taking uneccessary punishment." There is huge amount at stake here and a win gets you that much closer to a coveted title shot. A loss sets you back a year or more.

I've watched my share of boxing and I've seen guys get beat up pretty bad during a fight where they looked like they were losing, only to comeback and win.

A recent fight comes to mind: Mike Alvarado vs Breidis Prescott. Alvarada took a lot of punishment but he was able to keep in the fight and then come from behind and win. If you stop the fight on 'medical grounds' then you won't have those kind of fights. Also, look at Castillo-Corrales; that was a fight were Corrales was bruised bloody and taking a helluva beating

You were so close to seeing the benefits and thinking about what could be done.
I don't doubt that some will get hurt but why not try reduce that number?
Id also strongly disagree that an individuals rights are greater than societies right to protect the individual

Like I said I'd want to see the figures, naming a couple of comebacks hardly proves a trend.
Can you name a single fighter who has died or been critically injured despite winning?
                    I certainly don't know any
