    Stopping fights on medical grounds?

The Magomed situation has got me thinking that doctors and referees need to be more strict in terms of stopping fights where a boxer has incurred serious facial damage and suspected broken bones.

It's all very well saying the corners should decide but they're not medical professionals, they can't send their fighters into hell. Continuing to fight risks their vision, their career, their overall health and even their life. It is a fight, but it's also a sport, not a fight to the death.

Ricky Burns - broken jaw, fought on, potential permanent nerve damage
Antonio Margarito - broken orbital bone, fought on career ending injury
Lucas Matthysse - fractured orbital bone, fought on, career ending injury?
Denis Ledbedev - eye injury, fought on, career ending injury?

    Feel free to add more.

and before anyone disagrees, ask yourself should people really be fighting on in this condition when often they can't see or have broken jaws?

Obviously sometimes these guys want to fight on but they have to be saved from themselves. I think if a competitive fight on the cards is stopped due to injury, a rematch should be mandatory.

I'd agree more fights should be stopped I'd even go further that there should be a leading by x at a certain point results in an early win. Like the points gap in amateurs. Last I read there is more evidence supporting continued punishment being a source of serious injury.
I think this is extremely unlikely to happen.
As for the rematch clause that's even less likely.
The ******ity of most on here will say it's the pain game they know the risks etc but I think more needs to be done to protect the health of boxers.
This extends to mental health particularly after retirement.

It's hardly hindsight based. I'm not going to type further because you are clearly devoid of any reasoned thought

You're right we should just have a bunch of slick boxers in boxing and then we could avoid these incidents by having a bunch of boring fights and absolutely no wars.

I understand this is a sensitive issue but people like yourself get all worked up and displace your angst. There is not a single person alive that would be against stopping fights before a fighter got permanent damage.

The problem is that its nearly impossible to know this in the heat of the fight. That's not an opinion. If I was wrong we wouldn't have disabled fighters.

Ok so despite earlier weigh-ins name one new rule which has been implemented to prevent serious brain damage from repeated sustained blows?
Granted they have improved medical provision both at ring side and pre/ post fight.
I think my suggestions are worthy of consideration.
But unpopular with the majority for two reasons one people don't like change and two it takes the horror out of boxing.
