for them to induce a coma because of a brain injury, it typically means they are trying to avoid further injury to the brain. truth is, damage has already been done. i dunno how severe, but yes, him having a boxing career shouldnt even matter. just surviving and having a normal life is what his family is praying for im sure.

Mago had a stroke yesterday according to Kevin Iole. Goddamn.

so much for that "stable condition" stuff.

i also read that his fever hit 104 degrees.

high fevers are a symptom associated with bleeding on the brain. magomed is far from out of the woods.

WTF? They need to edit the title or maybe sticky a more recent one. He is no where near stable condition..

I hope he can make a recovery

The two main types of stroke are caused by either a clot blocking blood flow in the brain, or when a vessel on the brain's surface ruptures and fills the space between the brain and skull with blood. (I just looked this up.)

Medically induced comas (which I researched yesterday) are generally performed when a patient's brain has swollen and pressure must be relieved to prevent further damage to the organ.

I prefer to think positively about Mago's future. What he's experiencing right now is obviously grave, but he's a brave young man with gigantic heart. I'm hopeful those qualities will see him through.

                      I would bet on that.

But I'd like to say this: I'm a big believer in protecting fighters' health, but it's tough to say when to say "when." I watched the fight this afternoon, and, although Mago looked pretty bad, many fighters have looked worse and turned out okay. It's easy to say now that Jackson, or someone else, should've stopped the fight; but Magomed was never so out of it that he couldn't emerge victorious. (Especially when you consider how unpredictable judges' scores can be.) Jackson wasn't alone in his decision.

One of the tragedies of this whole affair is that the very fans that are currently fearing for Mago's life and health are the very fans who would've cried havoc if the fight was stopped by Magomed's corner. A little soul-searching is in order.
