The best thing to do for this fight is 50-50; Cotto has had the better career while Canelo will bring the audience.

I think that's fair. I hope if the negotiations get going and a potential fight comes to fruition soon, Cotto doesn't get too greedy and demand a ridiculous sum of money. They'll both make good business bringing in the PR and Mexican crowd so it's a win-win in my eyes. Canelo needs to wipe the Mayweather L from his passionate fans' memories by beating an established name and Cotto needs to prove that at his best he can hang with the elite and show these youngsters who's boss

I almost don't want to see these two guys fighting each other :l
Would rather not see either man lose but it has all the makings of a classic. These two have been on a collision course for awhile now..

          Interesting question.

Cotto has to be the A side. He's the veteran and has done PPV on his own. Cotto is ready for Martinez and Alvarez, both of which want Cotto. He'll choose which one to fight.

              Should be simple.

Canelo has never headlined a PPV as an A-side.

Cotto has headlined 5 as the A-side and another 2 as a B side.

Cotto is a proven PPV fighter where Canelo is not...I don't see how it's not Cotto. Not saying that Canelo can't draw what Cotto can but he just hasn't proven it yet.

We need more information on Canelo's drawing power. So far all we know is that he is a big draw in arena's, so big he could do his own split sites when he was 21 in undercards. Then, with the only common PPV opponent they have, Floyd Mayweather Jr...let's see the numbers:

Mayweather vs Cotto - HBO - 1.5 Million PPVs sold
Mayweather vs Canelo - Showtime - 2.2 Million PPVs sold

He sold 700k more PPV's with their only common PPV opponent.

On televised Showtime, they have one common opponent, Austin Trout. The numbers are:

Cotto vs Trout - Showtime - 1.4 Million viewers
Canelo vs Trout - Showtime - 1.1 Million viewers

Cotto drew 300k more viewers than Canelo to his fight against Trout.

                Other televised #'s:

                Canelo-Hatton: 1.4Mill
                Canelo-Cintron: 1.4Mill
                Canelo-Lopez: 1Mill
                Canelo Rhodes: 1.6Mill

                Cotto-Clottey - 1.7Mill
                Cotto-Foreman - 1.6Mill
                Cotto-Rodriguez - 1.5Mill
                Cotto-Gomez - 1.1Mill

                    On televised cards yes.

Cotto has the edge with the PPV's against Mosley (350k), Judah(250k), Margarito I and II (450k, 600k) , Mayorga (230k) and Pacquiao (1.2Mill). For a total of about 4.35Mill, add the Malignaggi PPV which IDK how much it did, that's about 4.7Mill.

Still 7 PPV's to only 1 and Cotto can only manage to outsell Canelo by 2.5Million. Canelo's lone PPV main event is 2.2Million, that is more than what Cotto did with his last 2 PPV's against Mayweather(1.5Mill) and Margarito(600k).

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on those past little PPV's of Cotto. I would put more stock in the present, and the present shows that they are pretty even.

Which is pretty much how I summed it up most Cotto fans right now don't want to hear that.
