Is James Toney About to Turn the Lights Out on John Ruiz?
By Darren Nichols and G. Leon

January 17, 2005 - If you are ********** member then you have already heard this in his latest interview on **********, but according to Freddie Roach, James “Lights Out” Toney is in talks with John Ruiz to vie for the Quiet Man’s WBA title. Roach went on further to share that a victory against Ruiz would then set up a fight between Toney and the winner of Vitali Klitschko-Hasim Rahman which is slated for May. "There's a few different options out there for James and by the end of the week we should have eliminated all of them, but one," said Toney's promoter Dan Goossen. -**********.net

Toney will kill Ruiz he fights in close and does that hugging **** Toney will use his speed and style to cut him up. As for Vitali i sure hope he is in top shape because he will have to be to have a chance.

I hope this happens...Toney will beat Ruiz. A future Kilt vs Toney would be sweet although I believe Klit would win fairly easy

This would be a good fight for Toney, and is one of few that Ruiz could take that would interest anyone. Toney should have a pretty decent chance against Ruiz (and I think he'd be my pick) - but remember he hasn't fought anyone decent at HW yet.

If Rahman and Toney won, then I could see Toney as WBA and WBC champ if they unified. But if Klitschko were to beat Rahman, I just can't see how Toney could overcome the size difference considering how Klitschko uses it.

As for Vitali i sure hope he is in top shape because he will have to be to have a chance.
You really think Rahman is the favourite?

I can see James Toney possibly winning a close decision against Ruiz but I don't see him winning against Byrd, Vitali or even Rahman.

James Toney beats Ruiz without question Why? because James Toney is way more skilled than Ruiz. Toney KO8

I understand your logic here Mic. I feel if Toney fights the right fight he can win a dec easily against Ruiz. Toney`s small size at Heavyweight would be an advantage against Ruiz. Ruiz would one - two then hold but Toney`s fast hands would allow him to catch Ruiz whlist he went to clinch. If Ruiz was more convential i`d give Toney a chance of a KO but it isn`t easy with Ruiz. He wastes alot of time in rds with his illegal clinching and doesn`t allow his opponent to set him up. A fighter like Toney uses rymtham in his attacks, throws combos and antisapates the attack, can`t do that against Ruiz as the guys tactics are so sloppy you can`t box him. This is why Evander had so much trouble with him. After expereincing the career of Ruiz i tend to believe that for a good boxer to operate effectively they must have a half decent opponent to re - act too. With Ruiz, his greatest still is fighting totally unconventionally and thus throwing his opponent`s gameplan out the window. Alas, if only every boxer was David Tua!!

If Toney wins it will not be by knockout. Toney gets too much credit at heavyweight. Outside of an old broken down Holyfield he has only fought an untested prospect. Ruiz style gives just about anybody fits and Toney will be no exception. I can see it going either way.
