January 17, 2005 - If you are ********** member then you have already heard this in his latest interview on **********, but according to Freddie Roach, James “Lights Out” Toney is in talks with John Ruiz to vie for the Quiet Man’s WBA title. Roach went on further to share that a victory against Ruiz would then set up a fight between Toney and the winner of Vitali Klitschko-Hasim Rahman which is slated for May. "There's a few different options out there for James and by the end of the week we should have eliminated all of them, but one," said Toney's promoter Dan Goossen. -**********.net
    Ruiz is a BUM!

then how does VK beat up on his opponents the entire fight with arm punches, eventually KO'ing them??
if he actually put his shoulders, hips, feet, etc into a powershot, the effects would be crushing...

Vitali is good but he was sucking air against Williams if Toney can hold on for the first few rounds he is in much better shape than Williams and Vitali will be fighting for his life. Vitali is definitly the favorite but it will be close i think. Toney is much faster than any oppenents Vitali has fought, he also has better reflexes, and his chin will hold. Also Vitali likes to come foward if Toney can use his counter punching in the phone booth he has a chance to ko Vitali in the late rounds i think. (im not saying toney will win but he has a better chance than anyone seems to think)

        RUiz sucks toney in 8
I think that if VK and Toney fight, VK will just need to lean against him and use his weight against Toney, especially against the ropes, for these 'first few rounds' or even for the first 6 or so rounds..
then when the end of the fight nears, VK won't have to worry about Toney's 2nd wind or lightning speed.

          These are words of wisdom..

Vitali is a big question mark as far as I'm concerned, but not the other two. Rahman have both been inconcistent in their careers, but when they're in top form, Toney had been better, challenging for a pound for pound spot, which Rahman has never come close to doing. Furthermore, Rahman is more consistently inconsistent, even missing the point in the middle of fights. Against Byrd, Toney will benefit from a more solid frame and in-fighting skills that are just as good as the titlist's if not better. In the end some folks will think back to the Michael Nunn win, though the only true resmblance will be that he beat a slick boxer with a late rounds ko. And Ruiz will quit like the ***** he is.

            • This is something I've never understood, the only ref that stopped Ruiz from holding was the one in his fight against RJJ. In that fight, RJJ kept away from him for most of the fight, but at the end, Ruiz was getting him on theropes every so often and every time that happened, the ref broke it up before anyone even had a chence to grab the others' arm or anything. Don't get me wrong, I can't stand Ruiz, and I'm glad he lost that fight, I'm just saying why was that ref the only one to ever take any action whatsoever?

              • This may be a bad move for Toney. He is not nearly as mobile as Roy Jones was.

                • Toney will easily lose to Ruiz, but not one person here will bet money against Ruiz. They know deep down Toney is not a threat at heavy and are just waiting to see what happens

I'm not so sure. Toney is a solid fighter and ruiz is a joke. If it weren't for the size difference i'd easily hand the win to toney, and rjj proved that ruiz can go down to a smaller guy.
