Comments Thread For: Stevens Views Golovkin As An Overrated 'Hype Job'

NEW YORK — Curtis Stevens considers Gennady Golovkin nothing more than a “hype job.”

Golovkin is an 11-1 favorite to beat Stevens in their middleweight title fight Saturday night in The Theater at Madison Square Garden (HBO; 10 p.m. ET/PT). The hard-hitting Stevens still can’t figure out why oddmakers or anyone else believes Golovkin (27-0, 24 KOs) will tear through him the way the knockout artist from Kazakhstan has annihilated almost every opponent in his seven-year pro career.

Steven makes some good points but Golovkin isn't going 12 rds with these guys an Golovkin can fight at 54 himself if he wanted... but I don't know too many hype jobs that come from that part of the world.. Stevens will learn the hard way...

Compare GGG's last few opponents to Stevens's and laugh. Golovkin's worst opponent, Ishida, is miles better than stevens's best, Elvin Ayala(who?). Those who live in glass houses my friend.

Stevens is rambling on and on. Smh he gets ktfo, he's gonna look so damn ******. And it's his fault too for saying GGG is a hype job and how he's gonna destroy him.

              The Golovkin Hype Job

Golovkin is a hype job, rosado was cracking him appeared to be hurting him and had him backing up in certain points of the fight and probably could have won if not for all the blood and cuts because he was definitely coming on in the fight, kasim ouma gave him hell for 7-8 rds and both guys were natural 154 pounders. Anybody that is thinking golovkin is going to walk through stevens is in for a rude awakening if stevens can take his punches when he has to stevens can and will stop him, and not every fighter that comes from the eastern block nations are good fighters there are just as many who are lousy fighters that never make it golovkin is more hype than substance and I have a strong inclination that he is about to be exposed in this fight. If he comes to fight and doesn't run and if stevens can take his punches when he has to golovkin is getting koed, you heard it here first.

There may be some condolescence and arrogance shown by Abel but not Golovkin. Golovkin views the bout as a sport purely with maybe some irritation caused by Stevens's black humor on top of his emotionless focus. No way is Golovkin gonna trade in the beginning knowing there is a snap in Curtis's left hook, he'll methodically learn what the opponent is giving him like a tiger before an attack, and then he'll start chasing Stevens.

I am 100% sure Stevens is gonna brawl right from the start. I wonder though, how will Golovkin cope with the aggression of Curtis right from the start - will he clinch more often or box from the back foot or start his own attacks? I don't know, what's your guess, people?

Really?... And Rosado's team just threw the towel out of the blue... Isn't it?

This is one of the reasons I like this fight. Stevens may not be considered a high quality opponent (though it's hard to judge how his lay-off effected him since he's won every fight since at 160) but he is seen as a big hitter, and has quick hands. He's the first opponent GGGs faced who's perceived to have the potential of KOing him and the fight is decent for this alone.

My feeling is that Curtis is not really gonna get much chance to land anything that big. For all his offense, and the fact that he is willing to get hit to land his own, it seems to me Golovkin is very careful not to leave openings for big shots.

That said, Stevens is not the kind of opponent it would be wise to take lightly, cos on the exchange or counter his left hook is undoubtedly an equaliser.

In terms of hype, well of course GGGs has his fair share of extremely vocal fans, but in spite of the couple of fights which critics tend to pick on (in which he won convincingly anyway), he has just looked so damn good in winning that it's hard not to be impressed and wonder just how good he really is.
