The Corner Has The Right To Stop The Fight at ANYTIME!

re-watched the Alvarado vs Ruslan fight and the corner stopped the fight, why did Tony Weeks not obey the corner? It doesn't matter if Mike said he can continue if the corner says thats it, thats it? right?

Corner called it off, and Tony Weeks Ignored it and still tried to see if Mike wanted to Fight on, wtf is that.

for those who think I am being critical of tony weeks, I greated this great job tony weeks thread right after the fight
Talk about anything boxing related here. Where the boxing discussion is always Non Stop!

so what yall think was going on there?

What made me revisit this fight was the recent passing of Franscisco Leal who gave his life in a bout that was less brutal this the Alvarado vs Ruslan bout.

The Corner Has To Be RESPECTED!

he's just confirming it with mike, whats wrong with that?? its not like he told mike's corner no i need to ask mike first. if he would have stopped the fight based on the corner's decision and mike was still able to continue and complain about it u guys would be on here talking shiiet about the ref and about how he stopped the fight without even asking the fighter himself.

I thought that was odd as well. Letting a corner stop the fight is a way for a fighter to save face and still think about his health. But weeks put Alvarado on the spot and really made him look like a quitter, when that isn't how it had to be. The story could have been, The corner saved Alvarado from himself, instead of Alvarado quit on his stool.

Should of let the corner stop it.

i can see your point if the round was still going and mike's corner came in and wave it off and the ref ignores it but that was not the case. the round was over already so he has a chance to ask mike so why not confirm it with him first.

You know what, I kinda agree with what he did.. Hes infront of his home town.. He was giving the Champ the benefit of the doubt..

Alvarado came in with the wrong gameplan that fight..

To beat Ruslan, you have to be mobile, and give angles so he cant plant his feet down..
          Id love a rematch

i thought it was strange as well

his corner should have stopped the fight when he came back to the corner. alvarado shouldn't have had to quit. i can't be sure, but it sounds like alvarado says "stop it" when he first gets to the corner.

More often than not a fighters pride will make them want to continue, but sometimes the corner have to save their man from himself.

If the corner 'throw in the towel' then the ref should stop it. Simple as that.

I've never complained about a corner stoppage. Even one by Buddy "I'm stoppin it baby" Mcgirt.

Corner stoppages are part of the game for a reason. A fighter's job should be to fight until the option to fight is taken out of his hands. Anything else doesn't look good on that fighter. Its part of blood sports.

Incorrect, only the ref, and in some places, the doctor can stop the fight.
