Learn your sports, and WLADIMOR KLITSCKO would own Ali and Sugar Robinson better than Ali.
We are talking about fame here, not accomplishments,,,

Worldwide Tiger is alot more famous than jack nicklaus,,

bill russell has more rings than jordan, who is more famous????

Pele is much more known than the guys you mentioned,, Im not a soccer fan, yet i know who pele is,,, why? because he is famous as hell....

We are talking about fame,, or at least i was,, know if you go by talent and accomplishments then i would change my list, and agree with alot your saying

So he should arguably have been the very first name to have been uttered. And we still haven't uttered Maradonna.
Dude, you cant mention Messi or Ronaldo, for those dudes are lost when it comes to what matters. For instance, those dudes never show up for international events. This tells me, without other million dollars ballers around them, they are nothing! Take the passion of Maradona and Pele....these are guys who cry their countries'colours in world events. Though Messi and Ronaldo have the talents, they just don't have the passion to be compared to Maradona and Pele. Even Zidane and Romario seem to have more passion than these dudes when donning their countries' colours; regardless of their struggles they (Zidane and Romario) always showed up at world events. Without world achievements, you can't have ATG status in soccer, sorry.

I didn't mention Ronaldo. And I did indeed, mention maradonna. You must've missed that.

Messi is regarded by most as one of the best ever footballers. So why on earth not also mention him? As for Pele or Maradonna being the best well there all up there so chill out. That is the general consensus so argue with the professional writers, orgs and such. Not me.

You can't be so simplistic as to pointing to national team. Football is way more competitive these days with many more teams able to win world cups. Gareth Bale is one of the best players in the world at the moment. Does he single handedly give Wales good chances to win world cups? No.

I knew who pele was when i was 9, and i dont like soccer.

This is dumb. I know kids who run around saying lebron is the best of alltime
            Im like "wtf ,at what?"

Its the era today that gives off indication
Everything is better now, when in fact
Today everything is more watered down

Soccer is not more competitive. For the most part, soccer now is *****y, you can't tackle a player without him acting like you toss a grenade on him. Let me tell you this, it takes passion to get to the next level....watch Ronaldo and Messi's attitude when their team is playing. If they don't have the ball they're out the game. Of course one player can change a game, especially if you are play maker of Messi and Ronaldo's calibre, for all takes is taking over the game and allowing most plays to go through you. It was like when Lebron knows he's best player on the team and refuse to take over the game when his team is losing, trying to pass the burden or just sit back and watch the game goes by, when he knows it takes more players to guard him and, therefore, create unbalance on his opponents' team.

Watch France at world cup, when Zidane took over the games, another player who did this was George Hagi (Romania), Messi needs to step up or he will go down as a "Club baller".

Question: Why you think these players command so much money if they never had the talent to change a game?

It may be coincidental but those you mentioned are all Americans. Lenglen was a French girl, and I was trying to explain that she wasn't just a tennis star but an internationally known celebrity, the first celebrity who was a sports star and who paved the way for all the others. She mixed constantly in the top circles of society, although from a comparatively poor background. She was the companion and friend of just about every prince, king, lord, lady, president anyone you can think of. Some of her accomplishments have still not been equalled and will never be.

Imagine winning a major tournament without dropping a single game..... She did this effortlessly, not once but eight times. She was the Rage.....

I don't think I explained it very well. No matter, many of those you've mentioned I've never heard of.

Yes im american and that does influence the people i know,, but look at some of my other posts on here and i name alot of non-americans,,,,
Usain bolt isnt american, neither was gretzky, neither was pele,,, wasnt arthur ashe english?? not sure about him,,,
I just mention the biggest names that i think everyone knows,, like micheal jordan,,, have you ever heard of mike jordan.. or muhammed ali,,,, Hell everyone in the world knows who tyson is,,,,
I can honestly say i never heard of that girl,, she may have been a big star in europe, but she has faded away with time, no fault of her own,,, I bet if you did a global survey and asked each person to name 1 tennis star they know, she wouldnt be top3 or even 5
