He definitely wasn't winning the fight, and he had nothing. Can't blame him at all for not wanting to continue, it would be pointless.
Tony Weeks: "Mike did not want to continue"

Mike def quit but I don't see him getting much flack for this one, just as it should be. He was getting blasted over and over. I went back and read the posts in the RBR sticky and everyone was saying the fight should be stopped at that particular time.Comment

hy did Tiny Weekes
Ignored the corner when Alvarado's first told him "we are stopping it".
He walked past the trainer and talked to alvarado directly, if the trainer says he is stopping it, thats it, its over.
If Alvarado saidhe is fine, but the corner says its over. It is over regardless of what the boxer wantz, I just found it weird.
Guess I repeated myself too much but you get what I mean.Comment

only the referee can stop the fight
the corner can throw the towel in but the referee can throw that mother****er back out the ring
watch the cotto/foreman fight
the corner cannot stop the fight, only the referee canComment

And thank god for Rudy Hernandez....He seen it and knows boxing better than Mikes "manager" that cashed his mill ticket Mr Delgado. Mike needs to take a break, get his lifestyle straight and train like the world class athlete he isComment

Kk thanks, I watched the replay and didn't know under what rules they were fighting under.
But never was a fan of only the ref can stop the fight.Comment

He quit before he got in the ring a month to sign the contract??...during the face off he wouldnt stare ruslan down......during the weigh in he shook ruslans hand and looked away...him and his corner were scared and were expecting ruslan to hurt him so bad that he might not be the same fighter afterwards......good luck getting exciting fights once you quit on the bench one more round the great fighters know how to dig deep thats what bradley did to get passed ruslan alvarado didnt have the will to win he quit on the bench.Comment

Yeah ^. I prefer not to user the term 'quitter' anyways as it is kinda insulting, and quitting once is not a reason to generalise about a fighter.I wouldn't label Alvarado as a "quitter" even though he quit on his stool. The man gave all he could give and left his heart in the ring. He did a smart thing by not continuing to fight. Alvarado was getting battered. Victor Ortiz in my eyes is a quitter. He quit the maidana and mayweather fight IMO. When the going got tough, Ortiz bailed. I had provokinov up 4-3 before the storm hit in rnd 8. I loved the Bradley fight and Alvarez fight. I've become a fan of Provo. Very exciting to watch.
In this case however, I wouldn't even say that Mike quit, he had quite simply reached a point where he was physically spent and continuing woulda served no purpose.
If I think of someone quitting I'm meaning someone who is capable physically of continuing, but chooses not to for whatever reason.Comment

Mike didn't quit but it became obvious his corner implored him not to continue for his safety when they told Weeks they didn't want to continue because of the repeated bombs he was taking and so Mike acted on his corners orders imo.Comment
