  • Tony Weeks: "Mike did not want to continue"

...so will a lot of fans now label Alvarado a quitter??? BTW Mike felt he was winning the fight...Do y'all agree??

Referee Tony Weeks tried to engage Alvarado in the corner before the 11th.

"I asked Mike two to three times, 'Do you want to continue?' " Weeks said. "And Mike said each time, 'No.' "

So Weeks stopped the fight for a TKO on the chair before the start of the 11th.

Alvarado disputed the turn of events, saying afterward: "I have a lot of heart. I'm not a quitter. (My manager) stopped the fight. And it was the right decision."

Alvarado added: "I felt I had the fight going my way. I was boxing him like I wanted to. But I took some shots. I'm used to taking shots and recovering. That was the hardest puncher I've ever faced."

"There's no excuse. I was winning that fight," Alvarado said in a somber dressing room after the fight, surrounded by his family

Either way, I don't blame him...he was taking too much and wasn't defending himself well enough

Of course, the warriors here at NSB will call a man who puts himself at risk for our entertainment a quitter. I expect nothing less.

He probably doesn't know what he said. The guy got up twice, but there will be some people who will label him a quitter regardless.

He had every right to take care of himself and he made the right decision.

He's bugging. He wasn't winning. And he quit, he's a quitter. It is what it is. A lot of great boxers have quit in the past and will do so in the future.

He won a lot of rounds imo, could easily have been 6-1 up after 7 rounds (again imo), but the knockdowns killed him and he lost the 9th and the 10th too.

He meant he thought he was winning and in control until the round where he got hurt, not that he was winning on points at the moment of the stoppage.
