Duran and Basilio certainly were while Robinson could be considered floating between boxer/puncher and slugger. Let me guess just like the TS you think a slugger is a unskilled brawler.

Apparently you are using terms as you see fit and hoping clarity will occur. Your assertion seems to be that boxing has become a place where fighters move better and understand defensive technique to such a degree that older fighters would virtually all, be outclassed. A couple of major problems with your assertion:

      a) Looking at tapes and talking to trainers who have worked in different eras, across lines, indicate that the older guys moved better, or at least as well.

      b) Boxing has changed so much one is often comparing apples to oranges. Like sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo o many individuals who comment on actual technique you probably have no understanding as a fighter, why certain things changed in boxing.

Sometime try fighting with MMA gloves, where you can be hit at all ranges with skill, and tied up, walked around etc..... and try doing this full speed without getting knocked on your ass. You see many MMA fights end when a good punch connects for a reason....lets just say there is more types of grappling than transitioning from striking to the ground. heres a clue: If you put your weight fowards, square up with both shoulders and fight off an orthodox type position?

basically the first guy who lands will probably have quite the advantage....Assuming you were boxing this way eventually I can almost guarantee that to protect yourself from such a chin check with smaller gloves, you would look something like a cross between certain Martial arts positions and.....a fighter from the days when the lead hand right was used, untwisted, instead of the jab. You would have.....evolved rather adjusted to the fighting conditions back in the day.

In a word....If you actually look at how guys fought you would see boxing was very defensive. The guard, with the front hand lead, the footwork and positioning had to allow attacking without getting caught flush. Because of the size of the gloves you could be koed with a front hand lead as well. These guys did not square up like fighters today....because today what has changed is guys fight less rounds, go for big punches and imo without the championship rounds, can often avoid a puncher. Without the championship rounds we would be debating Louis as the greatest....saying that Con outpointed him rather easily....think about that. How would Floyd have faired in a longer more protracted battle with Castillo?

Exactly!!! And that's why Broner is the only one that's not really boring to anyone. Floyd, Ward, Rigo and Bradley now with the way he fought JMM won't have anyone jumping out of their seats during a fight. Broner too high on that p4p list though.

There is no right or wrong way to box. The sport of boxing is made up of several styles. If you don't appreciate all of the styles that make up the sport of boxing than your a fan of a style of fighting, not the sport of boxing. And this goes towards both extremes. The fans of slick fighters that say "I can't watch two sluggers go at it" and the fans of brawlers that don't like pure boxers.

And there is NOTHING wrong with that by the way but just admit it instead of acting offended.

I can't say this is fully accurate. I'm a fan of rap/hip hop although there are certain artists who's music I do not care for. Does this mean I'm not a true fan of hip hop? No.

The little British dude was giving it to him too. Broner's defense is suspect as hell so I give Maidana a puncher's chance.

Not a chance. But the more technical boxers will always prevail like you said for the p4p. But broner c'mon bro, you're making us look bad lol

Wtf Mayweather and Ward are all skill lol. Both considered semi old school.

I thought this thread was going to be something like you'll only need an active jab to score over power punchers by throwing two (landed or not) to their one power shot or something.

I am disappoint... You describe Berto... Lol
