how come no one else gets heat for ducking Paul Williams?

Heres a thread i found on ************* , its a valid point too. everybody avoided P Will in 07, but only Floyd gets the heat

Ok...This is One of the Greatest Exaggerations and False Statements that has been floating around Boxing Forums for YEARS!!!

Now I truly understand that Common Sense, Logic and FACTS only confuses those who have NO CLUE...But it's time to address the question:

Did Floyd Mayweather REALLY duck Paul Williams???

Does anyone remember when Williams was still "Wet-behind-the-ears" when he beat Antonio Margarito in July of 2007? And does anyone remember Paul Williams "People" threatend a law-suit in order for that fight to happen...Because after beating Sharmba Mitchell...that made Williams the MANDATORY challenger for Margarito's title.

So after beating Margarito, Williams was OFFICIALLY "on the map"...Right???

Which mean ALL the Top Names within the Welterweight division (Cotto, Mosley, Clottey, Zab Judah, Berto) would be knocking down the door for a chance to fight Williams (now a title holder)...Right???

Lets see...After beating Margarito...They were talking IMMEDIATE REMATCH...Williams wanted it...But Margarito chose to fight GOLDEN JOHNSON AND KERMIT CINTRON (again). Then later, an Officiall offer was made for a rematch with Williams, but Margarito took less money to fight Cotto..Hmmm, Wonder Why

Miguel Cotto in November of '07 beats Shane Mosley...And Immediately I was thinking...WOW...COTTO VS WILLIAMS

But instead Cotto fights Alfonso Gomez in April of '08
Clottey fights Shamone Alverez & Jose Luis Cruz in Dec. '07 and Apr. of '08.
Judah fights Edwin Vasquez and Ryan Davis in late 2007
Berto was fighting David Estrada & Michael Trabant in Sept of '07 and early '08
And after Mosley loses to Cotto...he fights Ricardo Mayorga less than year later (Sept. of '0

Meanwhile Williams fights Carlos Quintana and loses. Didn't cry foul like Margarito did when Williams "starched him". He took his "L", got his rematch and HANDLED HIS BUSINESS!!! Now Officially..."BACK ON THE MAP"...RIGHT??

Williams had to VACATE is WBO welterweight title after failing to secure a "meaningful contest at 147lbs"
TRANSLATION: NO-ONE AT 147LBS WANTED TO FIGHT HIM!!!!

What was Floyd Mayweather doing in 2007 at the time of Paul Williams "Bursting on the scene"???

Fighting at 154lbs against a TOP 3 Jr. Middleweight at the time named....Wait for it...Wait for it...Oscar De La Hoya.
And then fighting an undefeated Ricky Hatton.

Now I know Oscar and Hatton are not big names like Alfonso Gomez, Michael Trabant, Golden Johnson, Jose Luis Cruz & Ryan Davis.

The Point I am trying to make in this thread...is how HILARIOUS AND JUST DOWN RIGHT IGNORANT IT IS WHEN EVERYONE ARBITRARILY CHOOSES TO SAY THAT ONLY FLOYD MAYWEATHER DUCKED PAUL WILLIAMS!!!

When the reality is...not only did these "So Called" Top names at 147lbs duck Williams...But they FROZE-HIM-OUT by eventually fighting each other.

I think most people would generally agree with you that he was ducked by everyone. The thing is Floyd fans talk about how Floyd is the GOAT so it gets brought up more. While Cotto gets respect from most people no one is claiming he's the number 1 ATG.

I never understood that. Margarito ran from the rematch in 2008. He wanted no part of P.Will yet no one says a peep

Didn't avenge his loss and went on to plaster his wraps

That lose to Quintana hurt Williams bad, he had some momentum but that lose really zapped it even with him clearly avenging it that took up valuable time and he still had to do more just to get back to what he was post Margarito.

It is funny how guys bitch about guys getting a shot at Floyd after 1 good win, then in the same breath say he ducked Williams who at the time they mention had exactly 1 good win.

To his credit, Williams did avenge his loss to Quintana by KO. He didn't duck it the way Margarito did
