The commentator summed it up perfectly - A modern day boxing classic.

A great fight with action from the first round right through to the end. I remember watching it at the time and thinking Cotto was going to eventually stop Margarito, but the big man just kept coming and walking through shots. He was relentless.

I remember watching this fight and when margarito made cotto take a knee my jaw just dropped and stayed there until the post fight interviews. I've probably watched this fight more than any other for some reason and all the commentary from this fight is embedded in my brain. "And cotto goes to a knee!!!" "And evangelista cotto is going to throw in the towel and antonio margarito has the victory hes been waiting for all his life" "That is a modern boxing classic!"

I will say though when the cameras zoom in on cottos wife and son crying it really disturbs me.

that's the best display of chin that i've ever seen in a live fight. to this day, that's what i've taken from the fight.

ask delvin rodriguez if miguel cotto can punch. rodriguez is a normally durable, bigger man, and he was completely overwhelmed by cotto's offense. margarito barely blinked when cotto hit him. it literally did nothing but tire cotto out. i've never seen a chin like that.

i was in a fog for the next few days. i loved miguel cotto, and it was hard to see him go through that. margarito literally laughed at his best gas, caught up to him, and ended his prime.

if margarito really used plaster against cotto, cintron, golden johnson, and whoever else, i hope he spends a few years in hell when he dies. penance.

I don't know if your reason was the same but, to me, Cotto seemed unbeatable back then. I remember when he was a prospect and he beat contender Victoriano Sosa in such a brutal and convincing fashion and that I thought Cotto would be unstoppable for as long as he dedicated himself fully to the sport.

It should, but when one is a known cheater, it's hard to count any of their victories.

cotto talk? oh hell yeah i'm up in here :wank:

nah, but in all seriousness ... cotto fought the wrong fight. it was the 2nd round and i turned to my brother and said "cotto's moving too much, he's going to gas and lose". with the seriousness in my voice and how i walked up to the fridge to get a beer as if he'd already been stopped.

one thing is for certain, marg's chin and endurance can't be tampered with.

i'd like to know, objectively, how bad those "mitts" could have been if it was so.

ANY thinking person knows what Margarito was doing.

He's a convicted CHEAT, and I don't give CHEATERS the BENEFIT of the DOUBT!

I can say with great certainty that Margarito cheated Cotto - and possibly others.

It doesn't matter anyway - Cotto retired Margarito.

You live off something that's a fantasy. Nothing factual. Prime for prime, Margarito annihilated Miguel. That's the only salient fact.

A massive conspiracy for no reason against a huge draw in the sport. That's fantasy. Where there's smoke, there's fire.
