Reputation in boxing is the most overvalued thing there is because current form is what matters on fight night, what you used to be isn't a sword and shield you can bring in the ring.

Neither Khan nor Cotto have earned anything at 147 or 160, both are optional fights for the champion although Martinez has a lot more pressing challenges at 160 than Floyd does at 147
Cotto vs. Martinez and Floyd vs. Khan are not the same thing. You're reaching.

They are exactly the same, just one is a bigger more interesting fight than the other.

LOL. OK. If that's what makes you feel better. You can have the last word. But your reaching.

Just because one is a more appealing fight doesn't change their situations.

A big name guy getting an opportunity at a champion who is choosing to fight them without them really doing anything to earn a shot at the crown because they are the best money option.

How does that not apply to both fights?

Not that I have a big issue with that because that is as old as boxing itself, some are weak fights, some are alright and some are excellent or anywhere in between. The optional fight giveth and the optional fight taketh away

I didn't say anything about appealing. Not big names either. My argument is about accomplishment and body of work. Your changing my argument. I said Miguel Cotto is a more accomplished fighter and has a better body of work than Amir Khan. Which is a fact.

He hasn't done anything recently and nothing at 160. What is his last meaningful win? Probably about as long ago as Khan's~

You didn't answer my question, does what I say not apply to both fights?

Sure Cotto is a better fighter that Khan and that makes Cotto-Martinez a far more interesting fight than Mayweather-Khan which is essentially a showcase. They are still similar fights in terms of situation.

I consider body of work over the course of a fighters career. So what your telling me doesn't apply. Your asking me to justify an argument that I'm not making nor do I agree with.

Duran jumped up to face Leonard
Floyd jumped up to face Cotto/De La Hoya
Marquez jumped up to face Floyd
Leonard came out of retirement, jumped up and faced Hagler
Tyson got a shot and Lewis on the backend of his career
Roy Jones jumped up to fight Ruiz

I don't mind when accomplished fighters who EARNED their status in the fight game make big championship fights happen.

Khan isn't in the league of any of those guys mentioned but I guess your going to argue that somehow that he is.

I would just argue that an optional fight is an optional fight and guys get opportunities all the time deserved or otherwise it is up to them to do something with them. Not that much wrong with it as long as there is not much out there for the champion, which interesting enough doesn't apply for Martinez who has a lot of guys to fend off at 160 that are proven at the weight.

That was my point before and still is now, as for reaching I think you're very contorted at this point of time.

My point is simple. All your trying to do twist my words and take the argument into another direction and I'm not letting that happen.

Cotto has put in work enough work in the fight game over the course of his career.

                    Khan hasn't.

I don't know what is so hard to get about that.

That was the original argument, an optional fight is an optional fight. A champion that has proven worthy can fight any clown until someone steps up and proves they need to get dealt with.

Cotto is a no one at 160, isn't the man at 154 and hasn't had a meaningful win in what 3 years? 2.5? You can't live off reputation forever. Martinez has a few challengers pressing him at 160 though so Cotto shouldn't even really be allowed to be in his head. So in a lot of ways that is the worse optional fight, except it is the better fight of the two.

Khan was highly thought of and had some decent wins a few years ago, Cotto has had a better career no doubt but Khan reputation is about as fresh as Cotto's
