What has Cotto done to earn a shot at the middleweight champ? I thought earning a shot was important to you, 2 loses at 154 and beating a fringe guy at 154 earns you a shot at the top guy at 160?

Take on the best fighters for over a decade, put together a hall of fame career and win titles in 3 weight divisions. I'd say he's put in enough work to do whatever the hell he wants to do.

Also that was kind of my point in the other thread but reversed, the champion had proven them self thus could fight whoever and it not really matter. You made a big deal of that you should make a big deal of this.

For the record if Cotto and Martinez fight that is fine although I would prefer to see them fight at 154 and 160 respectively because that is where they are best and both have things to prove in those classes.

Still it would be a solid enough fight that there is no reason to get twisted over the small stuff.

Reputation is everything. That's why this is a huge fight. Cotto and Martinez are proven veterans who have had great careers and its only right they go head to head in a historic event.

And losing to Floyd Mayweather in the manner he did really isn't a setback. Its not like he went life and death with Julio Diaz.

Now if this was Ishe Smith, K9 Bundrage or some other random lower level 154 pound guy fighting for the lineal MW title, I would have an issue.

Which I didn't agree with, as long as the guy coming up had put in work in the division below which is certainly not the case with Cotto at this point he isn't even close to the best at 154. Cotto is how many years removed from a quality win?

Reputation in boxing is the most overvalued thing there is because current form is what matters on fight night, what you used to be isn't a sword and shield you can bring in the ring.

Neither Khan nor Cotto have earned anything at 147 or 160, both are optional fights for the champion although Martinez has a lot more pressing challenges at 160 than Floyd does at 147. It is surprising that you don't care about that.
