I personally think Wlad respected Povetkins power too much. I think he is also too afraid of losing. I think he has a slight stamina problem...but at his height and weight its understandable. But dont act like its some crime when older fighters especially do it all the time and have done it for decades.

The problem stems from Wlad having too much to lose. Its Peyton manning sliding 2 yards in front of the first down. Too much is at stake to lose so he is too conservative. no one can challenge him, but he is so afraid of that bolo all he goes out to do now is win.

      Foreman is no povetkin

Prime Foreman would make Wlad his biatch

When Ali had Foreman hurt he could have pushed foreman over or landed a punch as foreman slowly tumbled to the canvas. Ali didn't. Without a doubt Wlad would have (If he was ever good enough to get Foreman in such a position)

Im not an alt. Mods can IP check me. I'm new to this forum and I am originally from South Africa. Ali is one of those guys who had no chin until he put on weight, but he had no legs when he put on weight. In Ali's prime he was floored by 185 pounders. Cracks me up how revisionist historians try to place the label of prime on a fighter who completely changed his body type. 1960's Ali doesnt last with Foreman and drops a ton to any legit HW with punching power. You can dance all you want, but if you got no chin it wont matter. Henry Cooper was the size of Joe Calzaghe when he fought RJJ btw when he pounded Ali into submission and made him cheat to pull out a victory.

Wlad is 37 years old. He has had 64 pro fights. How many pro fighters are in their prime at 37 years old or 64 fights. Lennox Lewis had 20 less fights and was the same age when Vitali retired him.

Also how anyone can say X would have KO'ed povetkin is a joke. Povetkin had never been knocked down before in his career. Wlad knocked him down with a 6 inch left hook.

Again, I think Wlad respected the guy too much. I also think Manny would have yelled at Wlad to throw. People who dont understand boxing and distance will complain. But when you are 6'6 with long arms and get off first and the boxer is 6'4 and goes under your waste. You can either A. turn your back to him. B. Grab and clinch as he is lower than you. C. Wobble backwards quickly or D. get hit to the body, headbutted or uppercut.

Super heavies are going to clinch. Its going to happen a lot. Yes Wlad does it to protect his chin. He also does it though because of spacing and lack of desire to fight off the back foot. A fighter goes low on Vitali and he backs up and throws. Same with Fury. Its tough being a big guy on the inside because of spacing.

Wladimir jamming his forearm into Povetkin's neck and throwing him down and repeatedly elbowing him in the face were what I found appalling. That was the dirtiest exhibition I've seen since Golota was in his heyday.

Foreman was a pretty ****** guy in those days who was very young and very superstitious. He believed in being bewitched, and in ghosts. He heard "voices'.... Once they got to Zaire, the dictator Mobutu wouldn't let them out for any reason. They were held hostage. Mobutu was footing the big bills from his impoverished country and wanted to make sure of the PR benefits, to show his regime was benevolent, to counteract the bad publicity he'd been getting for years.... When Foreman got a cut over his eye and held the bout up for nearly 2 months Mobutu wouldn't let them move a mile. They stayed right there and sweated. They were constantly surrounded by soldiers, and they could hear lions roaring at night.

Ali really won that fight long before it actually happened. He was tremendously popular there because of his fight with the US Government, and they were in a Communist country (supposedly-really just a primitive dictatorship). Everywhere he went he was "mugging" for the crowds, who had little of fun in their lives. He'd learnt to shout "Ali Bombaye" which meant something like "Ali is great" or "Ali will win", and everywhere Foreman went, the crowd would shout this. It wore him down. When he heard that Ali had hired a witchdoctor to put a spell on him, he got his own witchdoctor whom he made go over the whole arena as well as the ring and especially under the ring, to erase the spells.

The whole thing was a tragi-comedy; a farce; and Foreman wasn't KO'ed -although he was hit, he collapsed from exhaustion. Ali didn't have the power to even KD a guy like Foreman.

I may have a few errors but my memory of that event is fairly accurate.

Or Wlad could have either turned him and thrown punches, or timed Povetkin's attempts to go inside with uppercuts. You know, like you're supposed to and like Wlad did a couple of times. Clinching that much was not even close to necessary.
