Big fan of Wlad too but yeah he was excessive with some of his questionable tactics, it was dull, and he could have let his lands go and probably gotten rid of Sasha.

The last 3 fights he had he was much more aggressive and entertaining, so I we know he is capable of much better.

      ibragimov, yes.

haye, no - not from wlad's perspective. wlad fought an almost perfect fight against haye, he was very composed and fully concentrated, shoed good defense, footwork and upper body movement.

Yea but at 37 he's still way more of a dish than any of the other hws.

Wladimir right now is in the exact place where Lewis was in 2002 against Tyson.

Past Prime but with many fans still thinking they are 'in their primes'.

Lewis dominated Tyson but looked seriously flawed, Wladimir dominated Povetkin but looked seriously flawed.

I don't really count any losses Wlad will suffer from this day forward as a 'Prime Wlad'.

I put Povetkin on the same skill level as a Prime Tyrell Biggs.

I cannot see how Povetkin can be blamed for any of this. He went there to make a fight of it, not to hug.
Wlad takes the bigger % of the blame but Povetkin isn't w/o fault he couldn't slip and throw something anything he allowed himself to be handled on the inside

Plus Povetkin just languished on the inside when not tied up and was even less active when clinched.

There was also the fact he never retaliated, the ref was obviously doing nothing about the leaning, pushing, throwing so Povetkin needed to at least push/throw Wlad down once or twice and maybe that would have thrown him off. Povetkin's goal was to make it a rough and tumble fight and he sort of succeeded but it was Wlad doing all the rough and tumble stuff.

Wald certainly fought a very spoiling negative fight but Povetkin did himself no favors in those regards.
Good observations and I felt the same.

He also should have stood up with hard shoulders to the face and used his forearms back. Wlad was Bernard Hopkins dirty last night with a side of John Ruiz to make it uglier.

Povetkin didn't know what to do in an alley fight.
Wlad made a stinker of it and obviously was content with it.. A let down from a fan's perspective but he got the job done. We can only hope for more fireworks against the likes of bigger men like Fury, Helenius and Wilder. As others pointed out Wlad is actually more worth while watching against bigger opponents.

This was a stinker without a doubt. But I'm not sure why haters are using this fight as an excuse to say he has no skill or hes a bum. He was never in trouble.... he just won 12 rounds to 0 against the top HW contender.

Ugly? yes. he still dominated though and Povetkin never had the slightest bit of a chance. But there was nothing about this fight that suggesting Wlad sucks, is overrated, etc etc. That's just silly.

Still wish it would of been a better fight and Wlad didn't hold every time Povetkin got close, but the referee didn't stop him so why would he stop? He's not gonna let Povetkin just get in on him and clock him up close.

Hopefully not Helenius. I used to want that fight but Helenius has looked below average since Chisora gift.
