That wasn't a bad turnout at all for the guys mentioned. It's not like Breidis was a huge draw. Gamboa was still fairly new and Lara was only into his fourth fight.
Yeah, that's him! It was a great turnout indeed for relatively new up and comers.

I'm not saying it's completely impossible for Rigo to be an okay 4-5k draw in Miami with cheap tickets, but it has nothing to do with Arum being lazy. You'll have to invest a **** load of money on Rigo for the payoff to be barely worth it. Top Rank has a limited amount of capital and there's no reason to invest the amount required to make Rigo a draw when he'll make more much investing on other fighters with better economic potential.

And Rigo is at an age where it's highly unlikely he'll be fighting more than 2 times a year now. It takes young prospects fighting a ton of times a year to build a local following. Rigo got a taste of that HBO money and it'll be hard to for him to get up in the morning to fight on non-televised or ESPN level shows for less than 50k a fight when he only has to fight on HBO twice a year to make a million. He said he needed 4 month training camp to fight a scrub like Chris Avalos so he's not going to be fighting every month like people want.

Lived in Miami all my life and our sports fans get a bad rep from people who don't know crap about Miami. I have been to every sports events as a kid and support all my local teams. The reason why Miami fans will show or not to a sporting depends on the product. The fans down here aren't ****** and won't pay top $$$ for a crappy event, show a good event that appeals to the fans and they will come. Arum the master of crappy main events and atrocious undercards can't sell crap down here in Miami because the fans aren't ******. Here's a breakdown from a Miami sports fan......

Miami Dolphins.... Sell when they win. NFL ticket prices are overpriced so nobody will show unless tickets are free and parking is free.

Miami Heat....sell since they had the big 3 but you still see seats empty why? Because there are douche bags trying to sell tickets 5 times what they are worth but come playoff everybody wants to be in the playoff games.

Miami Marlins..... Miami hates the owner Jeffrey Loria a come pinga that's is a art dealer trying to be a MLB GM, scout and president.

Florida Panthers..... Hockey in Florida???? Nobody got time for that

Boxing..... Been to every fight card and if the boxing card is a good solid event then the people will show. Trinidad and Roy Jones both fought in American Airlines and it was packed, Mayweather fought Bruseles and it was empty why?? Because the whole Top Rank card stunk. I think the last good fight that was here an it was a complete dud was Berto-Urango at Hard Rock after that we have had nothing but crappy boxing cards that deserve to be in Arkansas. Arum and Golden Boy need to bring a solid boxing card and the fans will show. Rigo might fight in Hialeah Park & Casino I think that's the best place for him to fight.

Wrestlemania last year was packed and sold out at Dolphin Stadium.

Soccer....Real Madrid vs Chelsea was packed as well while Spain vs Haiti sold terribly.

Moral of the story is come with a good sports event or the Miami fans won't care and show up. We got better things to do like **** fine *****es

We're about to find out. HBO is either going to do a split site show on November 16th with Ward/Rodriguez or in December on the undercard of Chavez/Vera II.

The issue is Agbeko won't be ready by Nov. 16.

I'm near Miami and I can tell you the Cubans don't show up like that. I saw Both Gamboa and Rigo fight on ESPN at Nova Southeast University and a 5 year old could count how many people were there. It's like Baseball. They build that brand new , beautiful park thinking the Cubans being in the heart of Little Havana (where Marlins Stadium pretty much sits) would come out in packs, and we have the lowest attendance in Baseball

Contrary to what people may think (and I'm half Cuban myself), they don't support their fighters like the Puerto Ricans do and even for someone with the popularity Gamboa had a few years ago, they still didn't give a ****.
I am sure it has something to do with the marlins having the worst CEO in professional sports

Good post. A lot of valid points; but the most telling, in my opinion, is the bold. Miami fans showed up for a real contest, not one that promised to be a beating. Both games featured a Spanish team; and, despite there being a good size Haitian population in the city, the turnout wasn't there.

Anyway, regardless of what some people are saying, the powers-that-be obviously think a boxing card featuring certain fighters will sell in Miami. It would seem to support your argument.

                  Not sure about that Cuban.

I attended a gold cup game a few years back at what used to be the Orange Bowl, between Haiti vs Costa Rica and the Haitian to Costa Rican ratio must have been 5-1. Very good turn out for Haiti.

That was my (and PRchamp's) point. Plenty of Haitians in Miami, but they didn't turn out well for Spain-Haiti. I don't see why, unless everyone expected a rout. I would show just to watch the world's finest soccer team play. But that's just me....

Haiti played Spain pretty good and just lost 2-1 but the ticket prices were not reasonable for Haitians who are very hard blue collar workers. I bet every Haitian family wanted to see that game but the tickets were $50 each and parking $30. A family of four without even buying food is $230 too much.

Rigo in Hialeah Park is the best location as long as they don't use the same setup they use in the boxing cards at Magic City Casino.
