I wasnt comparing him to Floyd/James in terms of what they accomplished or done in the sport. I compared him to James in terms of style and how he looks and moves when you watch the guy. Also when Berto fought Collazo when he was unbeaten he was hit a LOT and arguably lost that fight. Berto never had good defense in his career while Broner has very good defense, not on the level of a Floyd/James but still good compared to what's out there in todays boxing.

I wasn't addressing a comparison to what Floyd or James did, I was addressing the style comparison. Its one thing to do something, its another thing to be extremely successful at the highest level at it. Berto was no easier to hit by Collazo than Broner was against Pauli and Reese in those first few rounds. Broner gets the Berto moniker till he shows he can do it at the highest level like Toney did. In other words, Broner is much closer to typical than he is to genius. No one is saying he is exactly like Berto but THAT is the fighter he compares to long before anyone mentions him in the same breath as an ATG.....which is really pushing it!

It sounds good and all, but most fighters with a style like Marcos almost always end up dropping the jab after a round or two. If I'm honest, Paulie showed the best way to beat Broner (too bad he has no power). Broner's not much of a counter puncher, he waits until his opponents are done throwing their shots to throw punches. He stays in defense mode when his opponent is throwing, which is why it will take an active puncher with power to beat him. Maidana would have to be throwing non stop jabs and power punches in this fight to keep Broner shelled up, and I just don't see him staying with it. Maidana has a tendancy to gas out by the middle rounds and stand in close and trade. That's the danger zone against Broner. When he has his opponent standing right in front of him leaning in is when he does his best work (w/the uppercut). I'd love to see Maidana put it on Broner, but he doesn't have the style to do. He has a punchers chance at best, IMO.

Berto didn't have zero defense against the type of fighters Broner was facing till he stepped up and fought better comp. Broner does not belong in the same topic line as Floyd and Toney. Come back in 10 fights and see if he does which I doubt. His style will be more compared to Berto than Floyd or Toney because they did their thing against top opposition. Broner has not done that yet so till then, he is a copy of Berto.

Berto had zero defense from the start if his career up to this point of his career. Broner has shown tremendous defense so far. He is nowhere near as hittable as Berto. Broner patterns his style after Toney and Floyd. Doesn't mean he is as good as those two are/were. Look what happened when Berto tried The shoulder role, lmao!
