Cotto also took a lot of punishment in between fights also he fought pac he fought clotty he fought mayorga and yuri foreman and he does not fight anyone without taking a beating also he only fought one time in the 18 months leading up to the rematch the same amount as Margarito so don't give me the whole ring rust shnit the fact is they both fought the same fight basically both times the difference was his punches did not hurt cotto the second time that was the difference he cheated or tried to against mosley the chances are he did the fight before against cotto that's all there is to it mosley was viewed as wasged up at the time and Cotto was viewed as a real threat why would he cheat against a washed up fighter and not Cotto
It's all there is to it if you're a simplistic spaztard.
Margarito was off a year after Mosley and then another year after Pacquiao. Unlike Cotto, he didn't run for the hills against Pacquaio - he went forward with a broken orbital bone and took several flush shots to the face.
Margarito was a walking one eyed zombie in the rematch. Cotto also fought a different fight to his credit. And lets not act like Cotto's face wasn't marked up after that fight.
Disgraceful cheater had his eye forever damaged by Manny and was retired by Cotto. Karma.
He was retired by Pacquiao. Cotto was another good payday for him. Margarito became even richer after the whole handwraps nonsense. Karma I guess? Derp.
I have a hard time believing margs didn't know what was going on. I also have a hard time thinking this was the first time and nazeem just got lucky and played a hunch.
I'm not saying its as bad as resto.
I just can't believe that a trainer picked this fight to start with plaster. Why shane and why then? And how was naseem so sure? He's a brilliant trainer but he can't see through leather.
No, I have no proof he used before.
The question is "What was going on" you are already assuming there was a plaster in his gloves, there wasn't. Traces of what makes plaster, not plaster itself. That's a HUGE difference.
Again, I'm not defending the man, I'm defending evidence, and the truth. When I heard he had done this, I condemned him. Look up my posts in the Latino Lounge and see the arguments I got into with my fellow Mexicans for not siding with Margarito because I was emotional about the situation.
One of the VERY few intelligent comments on this subject. It was obvious from the start that there was no "plaster'. He was shaking hands in the ring after the Cotto fight; his gloves were taken off with no brilliant detectives (like the liar Big-Belly Richardson) saying ...Aha... I've been writing about this ever since I read the FULL Commission documentation which clearly showed that Margarito DID NOT KNOW anything about his wraps, that the WHOLE c****roo (I use this crude lingo because the low-mentalities here understand it better) was, according to the FIRST Comissioner who touched it "...a used gauze pad which felt as if there'd been some water drops, and slightly stiffer in spots....." That was the WHOLE piece of drek.
You made just one error-correct me of I'm wrong- The report said that there were traces (read minute amounts) of TWO of the ingredients which could make Plaster-of-Paris. A missing component was oxygen. The report also said that these two traces were substances which were commonly used in many items around the world, especially in COSMETICS.... (think powder) Another lab report said that they were to be found in just about every kitchen on the globe.
The penalty was because "you are the head of your team so you must take the responsibility..." Margarito was found not to have known about the used pad. Yes folks that's EXACTLY what it was...just a used gauze pad. It was supposed to be new......That was the "illegality". And THIS is why Arum, a lawyer himself, was so supportive of Margarito. He KNEW that he was getting a bad naem for no good reason.
As for any kind of "plaster" conspiracy anywhere, all this was shattered (literally and figuratively) by the test that was done by Boxing Illustrated in the 1960s. It was to find out what merit there was in Jack Kearns' assertion in a book that he'd dipped Dempsey's wraps in water and then in plaster powder, just before his fight with Jess Willard. Cleveland Williams made the test in front of over 50 of the top experts. They did it exactly as the book described and even "hardened" the items with some heat. Williams said that from the first punch at the heavy bag he felt it crumble and after 3-4 punches they examined it and it was just broken up into powder. This was REAL PofP not "traces of 2 components".
And...by the way.. a little investigation of Willard's supposed injuries showed that they were fiction manufactured by the press. He had NO broken jaws, ribs nor eye sockets. He gave a LONG interview to the press the very next day before noon whilst sitting in his car (with his wife and their luggage) to begin their drive home, over 800 miles. He showed a little swelling and a few bruises on his face. NOTHING MORE. I've seen the picture of that interview with Willard and his wife sitting in their car with a horde of reporters around. And he was smiling. He's just earned a huge (for the time) paycheck.
I suppose you've all heard that after a revolution the first intention is to hang all the lawyers and newspaper reporters....
At the time Kearns wrote the book he was broke, and trying to arouse interest in it. Not long before, he'd come into the RING office and Nat Fleischer related that he was stony-broke, and I "bought" a story from him, really just giving him $100. "Dempsey never had plaster on his wraps, the gloves were put on in the ring, I was in the dressing-room and Kearns was nowhere near. His wraps were put on by his trainer". But Dempsey did such a great job that the story immediately spread.
I've read that there are 23 different iron ****es in museums around the world all supposed to be what Dempsey had in his glove........
All I can say is that on THIS SITE especially, there are low-life, ignorant, malice-impelled cretins who jump on anything to denigrate an honest fighter, whenever they get the opportunity. This is what makes me sick and less and less inclined to post.
Damn Great post man and you are right, it was missing oxygen.
this is a good listen. people are so quick to judge. thinking they know everything.
Dougie Fisher argument is weak,he said that every-time Margarito wrapped his hands, people would surround him so its sounds ludicrous that people think he loaded his gloves everytime, cause his trainer would have been caught. But how does Dougie Fisher explains the fact that,Margarito punching power "mysteriously" disappeared after people started to make a thorough check of his gloves? How does he explain that in the rematch with Cotto,Cotto made sure Margarito gloves was checked thoroughly, and Margarito never once hurt Cotto in the rematch. But in the first fight Margarito was hurting Cotto with alot the punches he landed.
Dougie is trying to save face because he was the one that first started hyping the hype job Margarito.

How did his power disappear? Pacquaio said Marg hit him harder than he's ever been hit and almost went down in the 6th from a body shot.
WTF are you talking about? Also, Marg was done when he fought Cotto the second time, he was coming off a seriously injured left eye and wasn't the same. He couldn't see and the fight was stopped, but it wasn't like he couldn't hurt Cotto.
You don't wrap your hands in the middle of the press or take your gloves off in front of everyone after a fight if they are loaded....sorry nobody is that brash.
In the second fight between Cotto/Margarito now this time with a new trainer, new strategy, Cotto was able to smoother Margaritos shots and he boxed a whole lot more. IF Cotto had stayed and ****** with Margarito like he did in the first fight, Cotto would have lost by ko once again.
It will forever be said that a great fighter like Mayweather ducked Margarito. Let the truth be told.
In the rematch Margarito caught Cotto with some clean punches and Cotto took it like nothing. In the first fight,Margarito was hurting Cotto with almost everything he landed. So Dougie fisher did not make a good point.
