Matthysse is tough and that's why he didn't get KO'd but he got his ass K'dD. This was the guy mostly EVERYONE said would annihilate Danny Garcia. First time in his career dude has been down on the floor and Danny did it. Stop trying to downplay his victory. Was no controversy behind that fight or decision. Next time Matthysse fans need to do some analyzing seriously instead of getting all hype about a big puncher because like I always said. A counter puncher always has a chance to win against a puncher.

The "right" score is your opinion. Two of the judges saw it my way, 114-112. 115-111 is a fair score. You don't consider that close? I wouldn't say there's a "need" for a rematch, but a rematch would be welcome. Those two put on a nice show. Not too often you see opponents match up that well. You could do worse.

Danny rematched old man Morales whom he UDed by wider scores: 117-110, 116-112, 118-109. Donaire is about to rematch Darchinyan, whom he KOed in five six years ago. Garcia and Matthysse could conceivably put on a trilogy. That can only happen if Lucas has a real chance of winning a second meeting, which he does.

Both them guys need to go their separate ways for now. Danny has bigger fish to fry and Matthysse needs to rebound and get a title. This fight was to prove who would be the one to go on to bigger things in their careers. Lucas Matthysse risks the fact that he could possibly be beat again in a rematch and that would hurt him more. Reality hit now everyone has to deal with it and that's Danny Garcia is the real deal.

Garcia's all right with me, but poor reffing is poor reffing. I cringe when that idiot Weeks turns up on the car advertisment we've been polluted with over here.
The only idiots are the ones who find a way to blame the ref when a fight didn't go the way they wanted it to. Weeks was a non factor in the oucome of that fight. He didn't break Matthysse's face. Garcia did.

          • I actually had Matthysse vs Judah/Alexander the same or wider than Matthysse vs Garcia in favour of Matthysse and according to some of you they were close enough to justify Matthysse losing the fight.

A rematch down the line is entirely justifiable imo

I agree he wasnt the main factor in the fight but he allowed Garcia to get away with a lot of holding until he finally deducted a point in the last round.

I can agree with that. I'm not saying they must rematch. I'm saying that a rematch would be welcome. Would you honestly have a problem with Danny immediately granting Lucas a rematch? Why would anyone complain about that? Their fight was plenty competitive and fun to watch.

You're right; Garcia is the real deal. I honestly didn't think he had it in him. Danny's not the most talented guy, but he uses what he has to the fullest. There's a blue-collar appeal to that. It'll be interesting to see how far he goes.

He issued warnings and he deducted a point which is the standard for a referee to do. What else did you want him to do? DQ Garcia?

It's not like every blow Garcia landed was a low blow.

I'll speak for myself. I don't blame Weeks for anything, but he was a little too lenient in his officiating. Was he a non-factor? I don't know. I'm not saying he was; I'm not saying he wasn't. I don't know what it's like to get belted square on the nuts a few times, in the course of a dozen or so low blows, by a pretty hard puncher. If you've ever been hit in the groin, even while wearing a foul protector, you'd know Matthysse's grimaces weren't necessarily for show.

Weeks told Garcia a couple of times during the fight to watch the low blows, but he never formally told Danny he was going to deduct a point the next time he fouled. The normal procedure is to issue a warning after two or three blatant low blows, then take a point on the third or fourth. In the final round, after about a dozen or so low blows, Weeks finally took a point. It's not like Garcia landed a few stray shots on the belt-line. He went south quite a few times; and several were right on target, if you know what I mean. I would've hated to see the fight end on a DQ; but now that you mention it, I've seen guys get disqualified for landing far less low blows than Garcia dished out.
