I agree that Floyd is already a great, but a win over Golovkin could really help his case as the GOAT.

I think Pac is a great too (not quite as good though), but he was a bit selective in the big guys he fought and the guy coming up who gave him the most trouble was the guy who always had at lower weights. Bradley did better than previous opponents, but I still think he clearly lost.
We don't even know how good GGG is. He's looked awesome against ****ty competition. A lotta guys do. Who's to say when he steps it up he doesn't fall flat on his face. So at the moment, a win over GGG wouldn't mean a damn thing for Floyd's legacy. If we're talking legacy, a win over Martinez would mean much more.

Honestly, I'm not even talking about the historical significance of any of this. I'm looking at it purely from a match-up point of view. And its not just GGG. I don't think Floyd would beat Kid Chocolate. I don't think Floyd would beat Chavez Jr. I think Floyd probably loses to Barker. And guess what all these guys have in common. None of them are better than Floyd and would only beat him because they're too big for him. That's not something that excites me as a fight fan.

I just don't see Mayweather fighting at the Middleweight division anytime soon, unless there's a catchweight of at least 156 lbs because he is barely fighting above the 147 lbs weight limit to challenge these opponents at the 154 lbs Junior middleweight division.

Moreover, of the current Middleweight names being mentioned, I believe that he matches up better against Gennady Golovkin than Sergio Martinez because he wouldn't be able to box with Floyd because he is too slow and is more of come forward slugger/brawler type fighter who likes to engage on the inside. Mayweather would see his punches coming from a mile away and counter them.

As far as Sergio Martinez is concerned, Mayweather will never fight him, because it's a very bad style match up for him. Martinez a southpaw; Is more of a pure boxer/counter puncher with fast hand and foot speed who likes to fight off the back foot while moving his legs. He'll be jabbing and sticking Floyd from a distance; Forcing Money to come out of his Philly shell to generate some kind of offense and that could be dangerous as he runs the risk of getting caught by a punch he doesn't see against a stronger and one of the best counter punchers in the fight game like Maravilla.

He has no obligation to do it, but I would love to see it.

I also love to see him vs GGG, but any talk of a GGG fight when Martinez is around is ******. There' no reason to fight him when he's not the champ, won't bring money to the table, and really doesn't have much a quality resume yet to even be considered.

Martinez is a fighter heavily dependant on his speed and reflexes and those flaws are becoming evermore glaring as he's physically deteriorating. Mayweather would thoroughly undress him and expose those weaknesses with or without a catchweight.

It's a marketable fight for Mayweather, but it's a win that will inevitably be denigrated afterwards. A lot of people thought Martinez lost his last fight, and it's generally Golovkin who is thought to be the man at the division (rightly or wrongly.)

Well when he moved up to WW the other top 5 ranked guys were Mosley, Cotto, Marg and Clottey. He routed them back to back in 18 months. The rest of the top ten was Berto, Zaveck, Senchenko, Brook, etc.

Mayweather would definitely school Margined come on. If slower are tagging Sergio then he has no chance. GGG or Danny would be better suited for a bout with Mayweather.

I just think GGG is the best MW at the moment, so that is why I prefer him over Martinez. I would like to see Martinez get a pay day though. I understand where you're coming from though.
