Comments Thread For: Andre Ward's Trainer Reacts To Sanchez's Comments

I like how Hunter tries to play himself off like he's the victim and that Sanchez is attacking him. Sanchez was asked a question and gave his opinion. Hunter is reacting like Sanchez personally attacked him, and Hunter reacts by saying that Golovkin hasn't faced the same level of opposition Ward has - despite that opposition levels are not the topic at hand. Hunter's just looking for a way to 'get back' at Sanchez.Comment

Virgil was asked a question, he answered with his opinion. Though the truth about GGG's padded record may hurt, it wasn't an attack on Sanchez either.I like how Hunter tries to play himself off like he's the victim and that Sanchez is attacking him. Padded?
J the Biased strikes again.
I don't think you understand what's going on or the actual topic. Sanchez is saying ward should not be expecting a huge pay day when fighting bums, which he is. Only major stars can do that, and Ward is not one of them.
Comparing Golovkin with Ward is ******, because GGG isn't purposely choosing to fight bad fighters, nor is he complaining about the money he receives or how people view him. Ward is criticized rightfully, because he believes he's something he's not, it takes a lot more than a good record to become a star in boxing, some day you'll learn that.Last edited by T18Z; 09-06-2013, 12:40 PM.Comment

Be that as it may, Abel Sanchez is in no position to criticize the way Ward's career is going. It sounds odd that a guy who's got boxing's latest Superman fighting bums, and then criticizing the #2 P4P guy for taking "easy fights". Ward's taken tough fight after tough fight, if he wants a lighter touch after being inactive and injured so be it. HBO handles that the way they choose to. Abel just comes off sounding like a company man trying to be employee of the month.Padded?

It isn't that he wants an easy fight, it's that he wants an easy fight with a big payday, which is reserved for actual stars of boxing, which Ward isn't.Be that as it may, Abel Sanchez is in no position to criticize the way Ward's career is going. Sanchez simply said Ward needs bringing down to earth, and it's nothing but the truth. It's constructive criticism, isn't Sanchez fault Hunter got butthurt by it.Comment

HBO is giving all of their fighters tune ups with big pay days Donaire,Cotto,Chavez and Donaire isn't the biggest of stars so why should Ward be any different, either way it seems like Able could have been a bit more politic with his answer. It isn't that he wants an easy fight, it's that he wants an easy fight with a big payday, which is reserved for actual stars of boxing, which Ward isn't.

If you interpreted Hunter's response as being butt hurt then you've got serious issues. I'm not sure how much Ward is asking for but I personally believe at this point he deserves at least a million a fight. And regardless of if you feel that Ward needs to be brought down to Earth, HBO will do that by continuously rejecting his fights. What has Abel Sanchez or GGG for that matter, what have either of them done to criticize his career choices? I could understand if someone like Cotto made these comments, but there coming from a guy who has done nothing in the sport on a major level. It isn't that he wants an easy fight, it's that he wants an easy fight with a big payday, which is reserved for actual stars of boxing, which Ward isn't.

Sorta^, I'm a bit caught here, 'cos I like Sanchez and agree with his opinions mosta the time. In fact, in this case too, what he says is also probably true - the weird thing is that it ain't really like Sanchez to come out and say it.It isn't that he wants an easy fight, it's that he wants an easy fight with a big payday, which is reserved for actual stars of boxing, which Ward isn't.

It really ain't Abels business what fights Ward makes or if HBO chooses to show them, OK, I kinda agree with his comments 'bout Ward - Quillin too FWIW and Stevens, I can't form an opinion on what he said 'bout Kovalev (cos I just don't know), but none of these things needed to be said, and I can't help thinkin' that Sanchez woulda done better just to hold his tongue.
I'm just wondering why Sanchez is all of a sudden sharing his opinions on all and sundry when he's always previously come across as a considered, respectful kinda guy.Comment
