Amazing seeing Chavez Sr give Mares advise.

Chavez was my favorite fighter growing up and I still have that loss vs Frankie Randall in the back of my head.
But Mares should take Chavez' suggestion of an immediate rematch with Johnny with a grain of salt. Mares is not Chavez.

      B.S.

Mares was starting to get more hype than anyone on these boards and rightfully so. Its not like he's rematching Rigo or Donaire. He should be able to beat Gonzales with ease in a rematch just like he was suppose to do the 1st time. Thats what great fighters do.

Gonzales at this stage isnt good enough for Mares to need a tuneup. Johnny is the tuneup. Go right back at him and take back your glory. If he cant do that then he's far more mentally weak than I wouldve ever imagined

No. Mares is regarded high because he's been matched hard. Surely you remember the bantamweight tourney.

He needs a break, let him get an easy fight. Gonzalez is not going anywhere and his best financial interest would be to wait for Mares, even if for one fight.

Im not hating on Mares. I said in my post that he was hyped and "rightfully so".

He's been matched hard but he's at that level where these are the easy fights. Johnny was supposed to be the easy fight. Thats the point

Never said you were calling him hype job. My point was that maybe Johnny was a bit underrated round' here.
Gonzalez is no Doniare or Rigo but Mares might need a softer touch at least to get his confidence going. But if an immediate rematch happens and Mares goes for broke and KO's Gonzalez ala Lewis - Rahman 2 I'd be nothing but glad for the kid.
