Why even try and make a Mayweather/Ali comparison? There are similarities and thats about it. While Mayweather vowed he wouldn't fight in Vegas again if he went to jail, Ali said, i'll go to jail for my beliefs. Floyd will continue to look really bad to try and compare them outside of boxing and inside of boxing. Dumb comparison.

My preferred opponent would have been Williams, but there was history in the Hatton fight, that was the more lucrative fight. Again, there is obviously no convincing you, Floyd would have fought Williams if not for the circumstances that surrounded him, his body breaking apart and losing love for the sport, it was only right that he take time off.

I really like Mayweather as a boxer and he is for sure an ATG. But you can#t just compare the reason why he is hated by some with Ali's one.
Ali was strongly involved in the social and the political debate in America. He was a defender of the black people's cause in America, he brought 14 hostages out of Iraq and he refused to go to Vietnam.

Mayweather ,outside of the ring, conveys values based on money and wealth in a very arrogant manner. Of course Ali was also arrogant when he said he wss the greatest boxer and when he insulted his opponents. But this was all a part of his game and quite frankly it was funny when you knew it's a game.

I don't especially hate Mayweather as he is a tremendous boxer. But it goes a little bit to far when you compare his social status ( related to the fact that he is hated by some) with Ali's one.

well floyd has been offered to sit on the hot seat, get interviewed and answer his critics but he seems scared to do that. he lacks the charisma ali had so only allows his cheerleaders fightfan.com to interview him where rehearsed and tired lines like 'there is no blue print to beat me' are met with constant applause.

he will never be greater than ali

I wouldn't say Ali was a saint as he dissed a lot of people. He was disliked for not joining the army after they lowered the standard that now made Ali elgible to be in the army without retesting him. But besides the hardcore Americans that hated Ali only because he wouldn't serve his country during time in war. Former Champions couldn't understand why he wouldn't join as was said he'd probably just be doing publicity events, greetings and sparrings. But Ali said it was his religion that didn't allow him to fight in war and he said it wasn't his war. His womanizing wasn't a problem from a religous stand point.

                Uh, no.

Mayweather is nowhere near as demonized as Ali was during his prime. Anybody who tells you different is a n00b ****** with no historical knowledge. There were people who legitimately wanted Ali dead when he converted to Islam and dodged the draft, FFS.

Only in Floyd's warped little mind is he that hated.

                  "Come out you ugly bear"

                  "Rabbit"

                  "Ray am a heavyweight"

Did Floyd every challenge anyone to a street fight and have hundreds of people waiting with him for the other fighter to arrive?

So we're talking about fighters that Floyd ducked who have awful resumes compared to Floyd? That's what we're talking about? "He should of fought Margs"....who beat?????? "He should have fought Paul"...who beat?????? "He shouldn't of fought Hatton at 147"....despite winning a title their, regardless of how you viewed the fight. You're a neutral poster so in no way am I saying that you're a "hater" or any of that nonsense, just saying that your critiques are unwarranted.
