@MC Hammer: Who did? Who is "they"? Dyed-in-the-wool Floyd haters who were going to criticize him no matter what? What I remember was it being said (fairly, I think) that Floyd showed that he was tougher than many had said -- that he was willing during stretches to go toe-to-toe with tough-as-nails Miguel Cotto, and that the final round was a Floyd masterpiece. Also that he could fight through getting hit some.
@ The Noose: Just wanted to compliment you on your past two posts. Overall I felt they were very good. Some overlap w/what I had tried to say as well.
The build up for ther Guerrero fight was people saying he lost his legs as shown by cot to. Even Devon Alexander said he thought Floyd had declined
Amen Floyd, they don't give you credit. But that's how it has always been for some people. If they can't beat you they just rewrite the story and let group think discredit you. But 90% of who you supposedly ducked we're Arum fighters. Who happens to not be making any fight with Floyd or GoldenBoy. The other few you challenged and they ducked you. You challenged Kostya and Shane and both turned the fight down. Just like no one is trying to fight Andre Ward. Truth is when your meal ticket is based on winning fights no one wants to fight an 8 to 1 favorite. Especially when you weren't a PPV attraction at the time.
Floyd needs to quit being insecure. He becomes intimidated by anyone who closes in on his PFP ranking or gets more positive attention then him, or wants adoration from everyone in spite of how he has pushed some of the Boxing public away with his disregard of other great fighters and overzealous position in the Boxing world. Regardless of all that, he needs to find happiness within and be at peace with himself and stop distancing others.
These people around him are building up his ego but they do nothing for his self worth because he realizes on some level that the support is paid for. They are like Cats, if he cuts off the Tuna, they will disappear cause they are paid YES men. He needs to find a way to at some point disconnect and find out who truly cares for him and loves him and focus on what they tell him and communicate with those people more and weed out the undesirables and people who dont bring meaning to his life.
Some day he will find content but it is not there yet. He worked his way to a high pedestal and discovered isolation instead. Maybe some day he will do a Tyson and Oscar reversal where he realizes it is not about rankings, YES men, his place in history, it is about what is going on inside him, the turmoil and shift that to peace. Eventually he will get there, just not now. Even though he is responsible for some of his isolation and public personna, playing the bad guy gets you respect but not admiration. Playing the good guy can get you more admiration sometimes than respect. He has chosen to play the bad guy and the host of aspects that comes with that. He adopted that at the start of the Oscar negotiations and it fed onto itself and grew. He can change public perception, other fighters have. But not till he gives up the alter-ego and becomes himself again. He needs to come back home to what he was. Dude needs a major Epiphany.
PAC is but one. Yes the biggest name by far but Floyd is hated on for much more than just him. Would have been a nice feather but wouldn't have stopped this
Floyd, that punk Broner and the rest of TMT think that being undefeated equals greatness... being undefeated means **** if you've only fought bums... It's the level of opposition that makes you great, not having an undefeated record.... sadly, it's becoming a trend and we only have to thank Floyd Mayweather Jr for that
