Rigondeaux will never be an ATG unless he gets off the "Fight every six months" train

Who exactly do you see jumping at the bits to really fight him ? All the time you see Super bantams calling everyone out except him and when 1 eventually does is a half excuse of how they would beat him in their imagination but they rather not fight him in real life because blablabla. Would you want him to fight trash 4 times a year? how would that get him any closer to being one of the ATG ?
Besides realistically he just escaped the regime slave athlete life in Cuba too late in to have a long rung at a career as a pro.Last edited by DannYankee; 08-28-2013, 04:05 PM.Comment

Nobody wants to fight him because he brings the combination of 1) tons of risk for 2) very little reward. Nonito Donaire was a popular fighter before he took on Rigondeaux and now people **** on him for taking the fight and losing.Who exactly do you see jumping at the bits to really fight him ? Rigondeaux would be better off fighting four bums a year. It would keep him active and at least somewhat visible, and it would give him a chance to build up a fanbase to see him fight live.
If he did that then he could get better fighters to take a payday and risk a loss against him.Comment

Everybody would talk **** and tear him a new hole if he started fighting bums matter fact even if he fought anybody not near the top in or around his division, everybody specially people here would **** on it not give him fighter of the year.
But i agree if no other good options are available and at 5'4" i don't see many he should keep active with the best he competition available. That's the problem with starting taking out the top, now the only way to go is down the only thing he can do is wait for a real challenge to come along.Comment

Nobody is going to give him Fighter of the Year for one win, it doesn't matter how big that one win was.Comment

So you think if he beat Nishioka, Mathebula, Arce and Vazques JR in the year 2012 they would? I dont think so i would take Donaire and lets say Santa Cruz or Framptom in 2013 over those 4 any day (not that any of them will get in the ring with him is just an example) and to be completely honest with you i still dont think they would make him fighter of the year anyway. He could be an ATG just never a popular one because of the lack of opposition, the age he got his chance, and also the lack of support even from his own promoter. It's just sad but true facts.
Lol that wasn't a win that was a shock and awe surprise nuclear assault that left us all going .....WHAaaAA!!?!?Last edited by DannYankee; 08-28-2013, 04:42 PM.Comment

It's impossible to say because he didn't take those four fighters on in one year. Obviously those four guys were good enough for people to call Donaire a Fighter of the Year for beating them, who's to say people wouldn't say the same about Rigondeaux? So you think if he beat Nishioka, Mathebula, Arce and Vazques JR in the year 2012 they would? Beating Donaire and Santa Cruz in one year would be a great case for Fighter of the Year. This year he would be competing against the winner of Matthysse-Garcia. But he doesn't have that second match-up lined up yet, and realistically Santa Cruz isn't going to fight him anytime soon anyway.
So we're left with what I was getting at in the first place, and the topic of this thread: it'd be better for Rigondeaux to find any fight at all at this point than to hold off on big matches that simply aren't there to be found.Comment

I think he can earn and get better fights at 126 BUT he is a small guy!!!!
He looked like a super fly next to Donaire but he has the skills to be there.
Fans need to understand that often power doesn't move up with you and he's not a power guy but he has enough timing with his shar shooting to make up for the power. Then again maybe he gains some pop with the extra pounds. I think he can handle most feathers, at fight time they'll be lightweights but he should 128 atleast and giving 8 or 9 isn't a big del unless your an inside fighter and theres none of them left.
