There'd be a 205 lb. man delivering concussions to giants today.
dempsey's corpse would be a top 10 hwt right now if it was exhumed and it weighed over 200 lbs.

I would make a case for the late 80's-early 00's as being a great time to follow the heavyweights.

There was Foreman, Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Tua, Morrison, Ruddock, Bowe, Briggs, Mercer, Moorer, Rahman and many more.

That was a pretty stacked division for a while.

This era is fairly standard historically, only that current heavyweights are usually bigger than previous eras and therefore are slower and more cumbersome. The early 70s was the only great era of heavyweight boxing, every other era was very mediocre or poor in comparison to the other weight classes.

Compare this joe Louis whom was 6 ft 1, or a guy Ali nearly got koed by henry cooper, 6ft and 180 pounds. Im sorry these guys would get blitczed by the shear Athleticism of the Heavyweights nowadays.

Also boxing use to be a American only sport bar the odd randomer. Now its a world wide sport were every corner of the world competes.

The Cubans and eastern block(the best) could not compete in the pros until 1990.

This is the best era ever.
