Guillermo ‘El Chacal’ Rigondeaux is looking forward to defending his WBA and WBO 122lb world titles in September. Rigondeaux is hoping that his promoters Top Rank and Caribe Promotions can make a fight with Golden Boy’s WBC featherweight champion Abner Mares. Golden Boy, according to the Nevada Athletic Commission, paid Mares $350,000 for his victory over Ponce de Leon on the undercard of Mayweather/Guerrero. “It was an easy night’s work beating the 2012 fighter of the year Nonito Donaire on April 13th but beating Mares will be even easier,” said Rigondeaux. “I have already beaten Mares in the Pan American Games by a wide points margin of 17-7 but with the headgear off and these small gloves I will knock him out. However, if he wants to step up to the big time he should take this challenge. I’m sure my promoters can make it financially worthwhile for him and for Golden Boy. Of course, if he simply wants to be an undercard fighter and not rise to this challenge, that is his right but all will know then that he is afraid to fight me.”
This clown right here. He needs to know where he stands.

Rigo needs Mares more than Mares needs Rigo. Rigo is the being rejected by HBO, and poorly misrepresented by his promoter. The same can not be said about Abner. Show Time, and Golden Boy welcome him with open hands, and Abner is not being pig-headed in facing opposition in other weight classes.

As it stands, Rigo is being left in the dust, with a single good victory, but not worth enough to gain notoriety.

I see your point where donaire on longevity,,, but i think overall their competition is very similar,,,,, And i didnt vote for mares because of hate,, just for the fact that he is usually the bigger guy especially in his super spectacular performances like the montiel or arce fights,, but when faced with a guy bigger or same size, donaire doesnt dominant in great fashion,, he wins but is not in spectacular fashion,,
whereas mares has fought the same level of competition with agebako twice, chemito, darchiyan, ponce, etc,... has never really had a huge size advantage plus people are leaving off his olympic status, which donaire never did,,, I know that is the amateurs, but if your talking about boxing resume,,, you would put that on it,, just like how you would put on Harvard on a resume if you went there,,,

This is just my 2 cents,,,

I have no problem with people saying donaire has the better resume

Good point. Isn't Nonito taller then Mares to?

If you read peoples post you would see that people are actually making good arguments here that's why it's a good thread. You can't get mad and call it hate because what's the use of a poll then. I am a fan of both Mares and Donaire and my opinion is not written in stone.

Donaire is moving to 126 now and will try and become a 4 weight world champion....
Yeah that's not a big difference. I can't wait to see what he brings to 126.

I know that Donaire walks around in the 140s but I've never seen anything about Mares weighing that much?

Why do people keep saying that there's so much hate for Donaire? I voted for Mares but I don't hate Donaire, ok how about a tie?

Good video, I learned something new. Didn't know he weighed that much for his walk around weight.
