Mares would get KO'd if he walked into a Rigo left.

He is very fortunate to have skipped 122 w/o facing Rigo and Donaire or any 122 pounder for that matter... He also won't be facing Mikey Garcia at 126 either.

Beating Moreno at 122 is not the same as beating him at 118. Mares has never actually fought a 122 pounder and was gift wrapped a vacant belt there so he's technically only a 2 division titleholder. He also went life and death against Darchinyan (above his best weight and prime) and in the Agbeko I fight; he could just as easily lost those fights and hardly anyone would have complained. Mares is looking better now because at 126 he is closer to his natural weight, he was probably terribly weight drained at 118. He looked like a pillow puncher below 126, where he mostly won fights based on constant pressure and workrate.

Donaire (4 division titleholder): Nishioka (TKO9), Mathebula (UD), Narvaez (UD), Montiel (TKO2), Sidorenko (KO4),Tyson Marquez (TKO8), Concepcion (UD), Mthlane (TKO6), Darchinyan (TKO5)

Mares (2 division titleholder): PDL (TKO9), Moreno (UD), Agbeko (MD/UD), Darchinyan (SD)

    How is this even close?

He's not scared of anything. He just made 750k vs Mares' 375k, he calls the shots.

Move up and take the fight and stop crying, Rigo.

You could make a case for either guy,,,

I voted for mares,, I think he has consistently fought top level guys,,

So has donaire, but i think donaire was winning alot, or at least looking super impressive due to the huge size difference in most of his fights, especially the montiel fight,,,

It is about dead even,, both have great resumes,,, but when faced with a slick pure boxer, donaire got schooled, and mares blasted thru chemito,, rigo may be slightly better than chemito but not by much, and donaire got totally schooled in that fight,,,,

I have yet to see mares get schooled,,,, and i also think he fights guys his size,,, Donaire has had like one fight vs mathzebula were he was the smaller guy, and maybe the japan champ he fought, but other than that donaire usually has a huge size advantage,

that is why i lean towards mares,,,,,, but like i said you could make a case for donaire just as easily,,,

this is pretty much 50/50 split,,,

I'm with you, though Donaire is technically 3 division. He only had an interim belt at 115 even though he was clearly the Man there.

Guillermo ‘El Chacal’ Rigondeaux is looking forward to defending his WBA and WBO 122lb world titles in September. Rigondeaux is hoping that his promoters Top Rank and Caribe Promotions can make a fight with Golden Boy’s WBC featherweight champion Abner Mares. Golden Boy, according to the Nevada Athletic Commission, paid Mares $350,000 for his victory over Ponce de Leon on the undercard of Mayweather/Guerrero. “It was an easy night’s work beating the 2012 fighter of the year Nonito Donaire on April 13th but beating Mares will be even easier,” said Rigondeaux. “I have already beaten Mares in the Pan American Games by a wide points margin of 17-7 but with the headgear off and these small gloves I will knock him out. However, if he wants to step up to the big time he should take this challenge. I’m sure my promoters can make it financially worthwhile for him and for Golden Boy. Of course, if he simply wants to be an undercard fighter and not rise to this challenge, that is his right but all will know then that he is afraid to fight me.”

Donaire and imo quite easily, he has fought the very best for a longer period of time. I think all the Mares votes are out of hate.

Why would anyone hate Donaire? Besides the whole turning down 3 million to fight Mares thing....
