You say revisit his resume but yet only state one bout, the Mayweather one. Marquez wanted to fight Naseem Hamed, a younger Barrera and Morales. Marquez has on his resume: Derrick Gainer, Robbie Peden, Manual Medina, Orlando Salido, Rocky Juarez and lineal champion Joel Casamayor. Unfortunely, in boxing there are politics and there are other bouts that I am sure he wishes, he could have fought. I will admit to that, I wish he would have take the bout with Amir Khan when they were both with Golden Boy. In my mind Marquez is an ATG maybe not top 25 but definitely around the top 50-75 of all time.

I mentioned the Mayweather fight because aside from Manny, it's the only other REAL impressive name on his resume. And regardless of weight, he looked terrible. Barrera was old....and because of "politics" as you say, he missed out on some real defining fights. JMM "wishing" he could have fought better opposition, is NOT enough. Losing to Chris John does not make you and ATG. It means you matched up well with Manny and on the final fight, you came back suspect with a news suspect coach and developed "Lucas like" power over night.
