Bhop would have a point if Kovalev was one dimensional say like Pavlik. But since he is is far from one dimensional he would a real threat to Hopkins at any point in his career.

Kovalev's team openly discussed all this at the time. http://www.boxingscene.com/cleverly-...plained--66863

Hopkins knows full well that the stuff he's saying is untrue, but the usual crowd who support him will eat it up as they always do.

Considering the Showtime-GBP relationship, you have to wonder why they were willing to accept Hopkins-Murat but not Hopkins-Kovalev...

Hopkins won his belt from Cloud, who Campillo had just beaten. Kovalev then destroyed Campillo. Hopkins, it's clear, was interested in facing Cleverley but just wasn't keen on travelling. Yet Hopkins beats Cloud and Kovalev is willing to travel and beats Cleverley, yet apparently it's Kovalev who's the paper champion, weird.

Just remember no more unification... he's with with HBO now. Is Hopkins tied to Showtime too?

This is just bull**** from B-hop..
When Murat had trouble getting to america because of visa troubles.
Kovalev vs white winner would be the mandatory. kovalev destroys white and becomes mandatory, suddenly hopkins wasn't so keen to pay his respect to his belt and his mandatory obligations. Hopkins team where talking about nobody knew who kovalev was but still he was gonna fight murat who's ever been on american tv...
Kovalev would have been sidelined and inactiv had he choosed to go for the hopkins fight.

Kovalev did the right thing, take small money and travelling to a hostile backyard of cleverly.
Now he has a belt and a deal with hbo.

I'm not gona say Hopkins is duckin, he is almost 50 and fighting someone like Kov just wouldn't be natural but everything he said is BS. I remember, in the build up to Kov v Cleverly, he never mentioned Clev being a paper champ, he actually said he'd be interested in fighting Clev after the Kov fight, I think he expected Clev to win. Heck Hops even spoke about maybe fighting in Wales.

But since Kov now has a HBO contract, Hops is in the clear. The best time to fight would have been when Murat was having problems, then Hops didn't want anything to do with Kov.

I do; and I bet Andre Ward would pick Hopkins too.

Hopkins would get knocked out in this one. Even if he hides behind a shell, if Kovalev goes to the body, Hopkins will be getting DeLaHoya'd
