Funny enough I use to rate Maidana highly when he was in Germany, then he was fighting with a jab, but the moment he fought Ortiz and won by KO he seems to ignore all the attributes that gave Andrea Kotelnik so much problems. Then I had him to KO khan and even people on here were saying all he needed was a punch to land on Khan, From then on I just kinda lost interest in him. But he proved me wrong against Broner and am looking forward to his fight against Mayweather.

Great thread, Syf. For a second there I thought it was punchr laying that knowledge on these fools lol. You forgot a popular one, "Maidana is slow".

Seriously, there is this misconception that Maidana is a slow fighter. He moves in a mechanical way but his punches are not slow at all. Marquez touched up on this in an episode of Golpe A Golpe. There are instances where Maidana is finishing up a shot and the other one is already on its way, this was seen time and time again during the Broner fight.

Yes Maidana is an improved fighter since he has joined up with Garcia, but I would not go as far as to say that he is a transformed fighter like many people claim. His fights since he joined Garcia have been against guys who are there to be hit. Lopez, Karas, Broner, and some other guy who we never heard of. Credit goes to Maidana for beating them, however it was not easy for Maidana in the three fights. He was still getting tagged by all three of them, I think if Maidana got in there with someone like Bradley he will be severely embarrassed.

Why? Khan holds a victory over Maidana.

How many stitches did Maidana's ******** need after it fell out in the first round when Khan landed that body shot?

I wish he would have stayed at 140 a bit longer but I guess his body had out grown that division. At 147 he is still someone that you have to reckon with. Just my two cents.
                Certainly.

And he doesn't get the kind of media attention that Bernard Hopkins gets.

Hopkins is known for staying in shape year round.

                Guess what?

Chino stays in shape too, even if he doesn't have a contract signed. The man is a serious boxer. No joke.

Um, no. He got hit by a perfectly placed shot to the liver in the Khan fight. And he was hurt to the hip against Lopez. You can't be soft to the damn hip! Also, he has been down from shots to the head too. He always gets up. So to say he is especially soft to the body is wrong.

Myth # 2.. Maidana is the same fighter as when he fought Khan, Devon, ect.

No... He actually uses a jab now and sets up his shots. If you can't see the difference, that's on you. Some accredit this to Garcia, and I'm one of them, but its also testament to Maidana's ability. He's a dog that can learn new tricks.

Myth # 3.. Such and such a fighter would steamroll Maidana.

Aint nobody steamrolling a Maidana that jabs and sets up his shots. Mayweather beats him because that's a bad style matchup... Unless he can catch him.. eh. But the rest of the ww field is open to a guy like Maidana. He gives anyone at this stage a tough fight, anyone. He would have a good chance to beat: Thurman, Mags, Broner, Ghost, Bradley, Berto, Provodnikov, Pacquiao, Marquez, Matss, Garcia and anyone else you might name, save for Money May.

Some of those fights have longer odds than others, but if any of them were odds in a Casino, I would take them in a heartbeat.

Myth # 4 Maidana is a club fighter.

This comes from the fanbase that thinks the only kind of boxer needs to be a technician along the lines of Rigo, Floyd, Ward, ect, to be good. He has proven he is more than a club fighter and the only way you might hold this view is if you think there is no room for brawlers and KO artists in boxing. And I say boxing can have all types.

Myth #5 Maidana is one dimensional

The guy has shown the ability, in recent fights, to momentarily retreat, and then hit with counter shots.. He can fight behind his jab, and he can throw lead shots too. You aint gonna ever see Maidana not try to get the KO, even in his losses. So that would be the extent of his 1 dimensionalism. But he has shown he can adapt from how he has changed over the last several fights, and any fighter that can adapt is not 1 dimensional. Things to work on: cutting off the ring.

That's all I can think of.. if you have another drop it here... Or if you disagree tell me why.
