Myth # 1.. Maidana is soft to the body, He's just waiting to be knocked out by a body shot.
Um, no. He got hit by a perfectly placed shot to the liver in the Khan fight. And he was hurt to the hip against Lopez. You can't be soft to the damn hip! Also, he has been down from shots to the head too. He always gets up. So to say he is especially soft to the body is wrong.
Myth # 2.. Maidana is the same fighter as when he fought Khan, Devon, ect.
No... He actually uses a jab now and sets up his shots. If you can't see the difference, that's on you. Some accredit this to Garcia, and I'm one of them, but its also testament to Maidana's ability. He's a dog that can learn new tricks.
Myth # 3.. Such and such a fighter would steamroll Maidana.
Aint nobody steamrolling a Maidana that jabs and sets up his shots. Mayweather beats him because that's a bad style matchup... Unless he can catch him.. eh. But the rest of the ww field is open to a guy like Maidana. He gives anyone at this stage a tough fight, anyone. He would have a good chance to beat: Thurman, Mags, Broner, Ghost, Bradley, Berto, Provodnikov, Pacquiao, Marquez, Matss, Garcia and anyone else you might name, save for Money May.
Some of those fights have longer odds than others, but if any of them were odds in a Casino, I would take them in a heartbeat.
Myth # 4 Maidana is a club fighter.
This comes from the fanbase that thinks the only kind of boxer needs to be a technician along the lines of Rigo, Floyd, Ward, ect, to be good. He has proven he is more than a club fighter and the only way you might hold this view is if you think there is no room for brawlers and KO artists in boxing. And I say boxing can have all types.
Myth #5 Maidana is one dimensional
The guy has shown the ability, in recent fights, to momentarily retreat, and then hit with counter shots.. He can fight behind his jab, and he can throw lead shots too. You aint gonna ever see Maidana not try to get the KO, even in his losses. So that would be the extent of his 1 dimensionalism. But he has shown he can adapt from how he has changed over the last several fights, and any fighter that can adapt is not 1 dimensional. Things to work on: cutting off the ring.
That's all I can think of.. if you have another drop it here... Or if you disagree tell me why.
