It was a great fight but Arakawa took too much punishment and his corner or the ref should've said enough is enough and throw in the towel. Arakawa is the definition of a boxer that will "fight till you die" and needs his people to tell him when it's time to stop. I love boxing but it's a sport. Safety is very important.

Again I saw him after the fight and he was in good spirits. He didn't seemed out of it, or badly damaged at all.

In fact he was smiling and shaking a lot of the fans hands. He got a lot of cheers and praise from the fans, after the fight, for the effort and performance he put up (which was a great thing to see).

That's great to know but I remember the night when Levander Johnson took a beating and lost to Jesus Chavez. Levander left the ring and everything was OK but collapsed in the dressing room and died five days later.

If Arakawa even just had power - nevermind speed - he definitely could have stopped Figueroa. His toughness and stamina was ****ing nuts. It's like we were watching a robot who had his punching power removed but was still a goddamned machine.

It was obvious from round 1 that he didn't have the handspeed or power to compete, so that makes the fact that he somehow lasted all 12 rounds and forced the action all the more incredible. What a great dude. I wish his corner had stopped it for his own good, but I don't think Arakawa will ever quit himself. His mental and physical toughness is otherworldly.

If Arakawa should be happy to be alive then the other guy should be dead.

I really don't understand how people could say Khan-Garcia was a good stoppage, but say Arakawa shouldn't have been stopped.

Vato, I have to agree with you. I think if the fight was competitive, then they should have let it go. The truth is, Figueroa was dominating that fight and Arakawa was taking tremendous punishment.

Those are the types of fights that end up where someone dies. The ones where a guy gets KO'd are much better, but when a guy is just taking shot after shot, it's scary.

His own toughness is his worst enemy.

arakawa seemed like he was enjoying the fight. yeah he ate a load of big shots, but he never seemed to be in serious trouble. it would have been unfair to deny him the chance to finish the fight, especially considering how the championship rounds were actually his best.

I touched on this in an article that ran here on Monday. It's a long read, but I think it's worth it:

I agree. He was taking a beating, but fig was clearly uncomfortable the whole time Arakawa was pushing
