You don't get it. Whether he was throwing 16 punches or 160 punches a round he still was only out landed by 8 punches. He had also been backing Vits up since the 2nd round. With the proper time to prepare for a 6'8" 245lb fighter Byrd has a chance to make him look even worse and win again. Not that I would bet on him winning, but under these circumstances and the fact Vits quit, a rematch was in order.

Really? What do you think the German fans would have thought about a rematch since they were cheering for Byrd after the quittage? And no, Merchant did not call for a rematch, but was disgusted by Vits quitting. Either way, both Byrd and Vits were ranked next or close to one another the next several years. Don't you think it makes more sense to fight him than Hoffman, Norris, Puritty and Donald, who weren't highly ranked? It again all boils down to a weak resume and choosing to face the softer touches.

so its chris byrds fault that Vitali took 4 years out to get over his embarrassing loss to a MW? Vitali lost to him, so the onus was on Vitali to get back in the ring with him. He failed to do so. He hid in fear from a guy five divisions below him.
