I think history has been good to Patterson. He's a good fighter with a good reign, but mostly clouded by his avoidance of Liston. His resume is OK.

15-20 is fair imo. I play around with his rankings as well, but could probably find 20 guys I think are greater than Patterson

On the other hand I'm pretty sure Jedi ranks him there solely to piss off the Klitlickers. As a general rule, pissing off nuthuggers is never a bad thing :grin9:

I think Wlad ranks quite a fair bit higher than Vitali. Vitali's resume stinks to high heaven compared to Wlad's. I'm not a big fan of either, but Wlad at least has a long reign with multiple belts, and he's the one who's fighting the other champions (Byrd, Ibragimov, Haye, Povetkin).

The problem with ranking both of these guys higher than top 15 is their opposition stinks. No headmovement, skills, footwork, defense, punch variety. They pretty much all look like they came straight from the chippy on the corner.

Oh I agree Wlad's resume (while pretty weak itself) is clearly better than Vitali's and I've said so on a number of occasions. I just don't rank based on resume alone but rather try to achieve a synthesis between those who rank solely h2h and those who rank solely by resume. Of course that means neither side likes how I rank but personally I don't give a **** :hah9:

I guess it's down to personal taste. I've always thought prime Vits would smash prime Wlad to pieces. But his resume is just so damn weak, his best win is an out of shape Sam Peter ffs.

No way I could ever rank him higher than Wlad, but each to its own.

I was always of the opinion that prime vits would beat wlad silly though lately I'm no so sure ... in recent years wlad has really perfected the art. Vits smashes the wlad of a few years ago but the wlad of the last couple of years I'm not so sure. Indeed I have a feeling that the current version of wlad v prime vitali could result in a wlad win. But either way I think everyone can agree wlad has the better record and H2H is the best of the two right now.

Either way the vitali atg debate comes down to ... would have, could have, should have, might have ... DIDN'T

he would have beaten such and such IF he fought him
he might have beaten such and such if he wasn't cut
he should have beaten such and such if he wasn't injured
fact is HE DIDN'T, HE DIDN'T and HE DIDN'T

I used to think this as well. But in the last 3-4 years Wlad really perfected his style. I don't think Vitali can take him out with a single punch and I don't see Vitali being able to consistently land on Wlad.

Wlad is much faster and he is very very hard target to hit. I see it as UD for Wlad 8-4 or 7-5...

completely correct, if you reverse the order of cause and consequence in those 2 sentences.

Anyways yeah I agree with the consensus Vits has the height power and fitness would smash out Wlad at some point over 12 rounds.

Patterson fought Ali twice and took him to 12 rounds. That's more than Klit's career highlight of TK06 Lewis.

I tend to agree with the comments on Wlad>Vitali. If you'd asked me back in 2005, after the Peter fight, who would win in a match-up between the brothers, i'd have said Vitali; but Wladimir is looking great now and his defence is almost impenetrable.

If they weren't brothers, I'd say Klitimir too. I would give the nod to Klitali because I feel that the fact that he's the older brother, it would have a psychological effect on Klitimir's mind.
