A gatekeeper is an unsung guy that can never crack world class level but can fight and is a true test for a prospect to become a contender on the world class scene.
99% of those guys you mentioned are better then what you called them.Comment

Hes right....your calling former world champions "gatekeepers". Thats very disrespectful.

Its all the hate and envy that Maniac and his crew spread through this forum. I cant belive that Boxingscene.com and its sponsors allow this ***** to happen.
You know why they condone it? Because it causes controversy and people post on dumb threads like this one.
If you respect boxing and boxers in general, like the sport for what its, love your favorite fighters and respect their opponents and other fighters alike it will be a much better atmosphere instead you got crap posting, no tech or the like.
Some in here are just haters and envious pricks who hide behind a key board to discredit people. I have no respect for these people. None.
Eventually, Karma will catch with them....like they say in PR...I catch you on your way down buddy!Comment

If a fighter got beyond earshot of the big bunch of keys jangling off of Joshua Clottey's belt loop they'd get a lungful of rarefied air.
Braso polished numbers; hinges well oiled, the man could have been one of the best gatekeepers of the last twenty years.
Shame he couldn't help himself and tried sneaking through when Judah left the passage ajar.
Don't get offended, its just how boxing is. Gatekeepers are actually more accomplished and a better win than say... a journeyman..or even some former champions. Some former champions are so passed it they aren't even good gatekeepers anymore. Its what it is.

wtf lol... Did I just read an English post. If so, was it just gibberish?
I've been in the ring, and when I call former champions gatekeepers its not a slight on them. Its the natural evolution of someone that stays in the game too long. And as someone pointed out (4 corners, I believe?) there are different kinds of gatekeepers. High level gatekeepers, low level gatekeepers, and so on. The thing to remember is: A gatekeeper is essentially an avenue for a fighter to go from small time to big time. A stepping stone. Former champions can be stepping stones for up and coming fighters, hence gates. It happens.

again don't get hung up on semantics. If a champion stays in the game too long they are no longer going to be at the pinnacle of things but more at the staging ground of future fighters' greatness. They help mould and test future champions. And yes, a former champion can become a gatekeeper. As I explained.Comment
