When you watch Matthysse fight

Matthysse is a real good fighter its unfortunate that he has become one of the fighters on NSB where almost every discussion about them takes place at the extremes and not rationally in the middle.he throws ot of punches, holds and hits, and he holds your head down and even throws punches while he is holding you down. It's a mixture of "illegal" and "if you can get away with it" type punches so I won't call it dirty, but it's damn near close. Matthysse does those things to get you out of your game so that you will brawl.
The one thing that Matthysse does well is that he has good vision while trading with you. Matthysse can't box, and that's just the bottom line no matter what his fans say, but now he is constantly punching which makes up for his lack of pure boxing. His jab is a range finder more than anything.
In terms of his punches he doesn't care where he lands when he fights a decent boxer. He's strong, he comes in good condition now, but if he can't hit you with his straight shots, his shots are almost winging arm punches. And because he has heavy hands, those wild shots sometimes are not seen by his opponent and do land. Against a consummate pro, they will exploit that.
Matthysse also does something that James Toney did very well. He gets back to center ring and never follows you when he tries to trap you on the ropes. He knows how to cut the ring off. He starts his attack center ring pushing you back.
At times he is a decent body puncher when he commits like he did against Soto, but then he can become a head hunter. He's not an inside fighter, but he does want to trade. Matthysse is more fast than slow if you know what I mean in boxing terms. He can be explosive or at times hesitate too much.
The last thing I'll say is that Matthysse now knows how to get in shape for a fight. At one point he never went past 4 rounds for a while. He has to stay consistent with his conditioning He was in good shape for the Judah fight, and looked tired in the Alexander fight-imo.
I'll do Danny Garcia in the next few days, but these are my real observations of Matthysse.Comment

Lucas is a brawler who does great against moving targets. Lucas has a great sense of timing. If you watch all those knokdowns, his opponent are allways moving.
One of Lucas flaws could be that he tends to be a little wild when he starts to brawl or wants to finish a fight. In his last fight, when they were trading shots i remember Peterson landing some good shots. That's an advantage you can't give to Garcia, who is a great counterpuncher with a monster left.Comment

He could improve his defense. He is not the hardest guy to hit. When a fighter attacks as hard as he does they are going to get hit some. He takes a few too many punches on the way in. GGG attacks as hard as Lucas does but avoids the return fire better. He does not have much of a jab. I don't see too many flaws now but I am no expert. He has improved much since I first saw him in the Judah fight . He was a slow starter but the Peterson fight shows he has pretty much fixed that.Comment

He reminds me of Duran too. He has a somewhat simular style and two handed power to the head and body.Comment

Matthysse is already deep in his training.
While Garcia is fking around with his hip hop Matthysse is doing the work that allows him to do what he does in the ring.
TAKE NOTE! Dont cry out PEDs after he kills Danny, becuase this is what happens when one guy takes it dead serious and the other screws around.
A few weeks ago in one of the twitter account by his team Matthysse was shown working out with some huge ropes. That's the kind of workout yo do for arm speed and strength. Rather than working out to LOOK strong, big muscles and crap, he's doing the workout requires to BE strong. Big difference there folks.
According to what he said in that last interview of his, his training for 12 rounds. I doubt the fight lasts that long but I'm sure his stamina will be impressive.Comment

I'm happy to see someone actually do an analysis on Lucas. Punching power is a trait that causes most fans to go completely ****** and lose all sense of reality in regards to evaluating a fighter.Comment

Im pretty sure Danny will train harder for this fight than any other fight in the past. Conditioning shouldnt be a problem for either fighter. Matthysse has been hit with some shots but how good is his chin really? I think this will be a Maidana/Lopez type fight. Both fighters landing big shots and both will have a chance to win the fight. With one fighter tapping out mid way through the fight.Matthysse is already deep in his training.
