People that say Matthysse can't box aren't looking close enough or don't know what they're watching.

The Mike Dallas Jr. fight showed me that Matthysse is more than just a puncher with power. He sets his shiet up well. If you look at that Dallas Jr fight, it tells the story...

Dallas Jr. a taller fighter, came out real aggressive. He was throwing a VERY hard, stiff jab but he was falling in as he threw it. Matthysse was SUPER calm during Dallas Jr aggressive onslaught. He didn't get lured into brawling exchanges. He just stayed calm...then he waited...he waited for Dallas Jr. to throw another fall in, overly aggressive jab, Matthysse pulled back and EXPLODED with a right hand counter. You can tell the way he committed to that counter that he had read what Dallas Jr. was doing and knew EXACTLY where his head would be as he fell in.

Mindless sluggers with power would not likely have picked up on that in 12 rounds...Matthysse recognized it, then exploited it to a KO in one damn round.

I give Garcia credit for being a tough, grind it out type fighter who has managed to win some fights he didn't look impressive in. I see that streak ending. I don't think he has enough to beat Matthysse.

Mike Dallas, lmao. He lost in less than a round.

        "Matthysse can't box"

Is a line i'll never agree with.

He is subtle in what he does - JUST LIKE GARCIA

Garcia may be slow, wide and crude at times.. but even against the fastest of fighters and fighters who use their feet he gets off strong counter shots and almost has a natural reflex timing ability where he will throw a very fast strong punch to counter you, that left hook and right hands he throws which knock opponents down come out of no where.. types of shots that Matthysse needs to worry about

Matthysse on the other hand throws nice right hands to the body, sets his work up, knows how to keep his range very well and what counter shots to throw - YOU WILL see him make garcia miss lots of wide looping shots just by ducking beneath them, simple but effective defence. Garcia normally relies on his opponent to make the mistakes rather than setting his own work up which is something a master counterpuncher should be able to do like Marquez.

Ehhh, I'm not ready to say Garcia is even at Matthysse's level in terms of skills. Who has he beat? Washed up Morales? He didn't look particularly great against Judah who is a shell of himself. Khan was whooping his ass up until that lucky no look hook.

I can't wait for this fight, but honestly, after the intelligence he showed against Dallas Jr. and his destruction of Peterson, I ain't going against Matthysse until he fights a guy like Broner who has good defense, can counter, is quick AND can crack. And even that's going to be questionable because I don't think Broner has fought anyone yet whom he felt genuinely could hurt him. He may look completely different against a guy like Matthysse once he feels his power.

I need to see Matthysse in with someone who can punch. Garcia can punch a bit. He lacks a big right hand, but he can box. Every time a puncher gets some hype, I always want to see if their opponent can take a punch as well as see if the puncher(Matthysse) can take a punch themselves.

Matthysse can't beat Broner. He won't be able to box Broner. To fight Broner's fight is suicide. I'm glad that you guys go back to the Paulie fight. That makes my day because it makes you so sure that Matthysse CAN beat Broner.

I kinda agree... But also kinda don't

He is dirty, which he mostly proved in the Ajose fight... But he can box... Not like Ray Leonard, but he does fight well at a distance and has very good defense for a "brawler"... He's not much of a jabber, but he uses his straight right hand to the body the same way a fighter would use a stiff hard jab e.g. Sonny Liston

Gavin Rees landed bombs on Broner. Are you saying Matthysse can't? I like Broner, and I'm sure he would fight smarter against Matthysse then he did Rees, but his chin would get checked a few times.

Pretty good assessment Ducketts, don't agree with some of it, but you presented your opinions nicely and well rounded.

I think the Garcia fight will give us a better idea of how good Matthysse really is.
