Mexicans are the best in the biz my friend, it's not a bias it's the truth. Also, I know you will say other wise but I count Mexican/Americans in there as well. Mexican blood is Mexican blood.

Just like Danny Garcia is PR and there will be second generation Cuban/Americans you guys will rally around, the border doesn't cut our blood off.

Mexico vs Puerto Rico was the status quo for latin rivalry as of recent.

Much has changed with the sudden rise of defecting Cuban exiles successfully translating to the pros.

It seems the landscape is shifting.

The high quantity/mediocre quality of Mexican fighters might be endangered with the presence of the high quality/low quantity Cuban fighters.

Barthelemy has a better chance than Gamboa. If the Mexicans wanna count the fake Mexican Mikey Garcia then we must count Quillin.

Mexico does have a few more champs at the lower weights. Like Estrada. Even if the majority of people dont follow those lower weights they ARE champs.

So they have like 6 compared to our 4. Not counting Garcia and Quillin.

Yup, i fully agree. Quantity doesn't favour you, but when you are as skilled as Cubans are in boxing, quality tends to trump the latter. Im excited for what's to come vs Cuba. Puro respeto para los Cubanos, maestros del box. Espero unas grandes guerras entre nuestros boxeadores y guerreros.

Nonito Donaire vs countless of our fighters. Donnie Nietes vs countless of our fighters including recent victory to earn the Ring Magazine belt at 108 over Moi Fuentes here in Manila. Juan Francisco Estrada avenging Segura and Marquez and defeating 2 more filipinos along the way within the last year and a half or so. Brian Viloria destroying our fighters before being stopped by Estrada. Of course Pacquiao helped fertilise the rivalry but truth be told it is acknowledged here in the PI and in Mexico as well by the media. The Mexican fans and Filipino fans are just as aware of the heated fights we have had and will have with each other in the sport.

I was going to mention Donaire, but decided not to. Although Nonito has defeated Mexican fighters, they haven't been especially big victories in my opinion. You certainly can't put them in the same category as beating the likes of Barrera, Morales and Marquez. Nonetheless, I will not argue with Donaire's inclusion.

Everyone else you mention, however, doesn't register with most fans. It's a sad fact that only the hardest of the hardcore boxing fans follow those tiny little dudes. How can you call something a rivalry when the vast majority of fans don't even know -- or care -- that these fights are occurring? The media, especially in Latin America, will push anything that sells. If two ants fight over a molehill -- one happens to be Mexican and the other a Filipino -- it's a "new rivalry". And, by the way, Viloria flies even lower under the radar, since he's Hawaiian.
