It's a fact that Cuba had a professional world champion boxer before Mexico and Puerto Rico. It's a fact that, when forced to fight exclusively in the amateurs, Cuba dominated boxing. It's a fact that shortly after some Cuban boxers left the island, they became world champions. It's a fact that Cubans have several more professional world champions than Puerto Rico.

Careful that the delusion you carry around doesn't evaporate a week from tomorrow....
I'm trying to avoid that ****head cause there's a few PR fighters that I like and I don't wanna talk sh.t about them. Plus like they say, never kick a man when he's down.

And the PR posters around here are actually respectable too.

    • I think it'll be some time before there's a Mexico-Cuba boxing rivalry, if ever. Rivalries are about more than just competitiveness and match-ups. They're about interest. If a tree falls in the forest, and there's no one to hear it, does it make a sound?

The reason why the Mexico-PR rivalry existed (exists?), or even started in the first place, is because fans on both sides of the equation were rabidly behind their man. Mexico has a culture of backing their champions, so they'll always bring their numbers. It remains to be seen if Cubans will ever bring theirs.

I don't know any other way I should take it. I have lived in boxing gyms my whole life.

If you meant mutt as far as being Mexican but being born in the U.S, then that makes less sense.

Mikey is about as Mexican as you can get. Look at his damn face? LOL Ese cabron tiene la jeta de Maya o Azteca....he's a ***in indio man.

        Come on......

        • Rivalry what fckng rivalry? Lara lost to Carlos Molina got his ass handed to him in the angulo fight and about to be drinking food through a straw for weeks after July 12th lol q as for everyone else Rigo needs to stop fighting bums. The exact **** he called nonito out for is what he's doing, I don't see him calling other champs out trying to unify all the belts. Mikey would spank Gamboa and Barthelemy. It's funny when Gamboa actually has a fight and there is actually a press conference and he doesn't show up in his home town basically of Miami because of a contract dispute he's a hero. But when mikey doesn't approve anything and tries to sue Bob for the same Ish he's a duck lol -cubana fan logic

This is very true and I have to tell you that it will be tough for Cuba to be honest. I live in Miami as you well know and Cubans are just not good sports fans.

You would think baseball and boxing would be huge down here, yet they struggle to fill the ball park and boxing venues. The Heat are top billing and only because they are winning.

I have to give it to Puerto Rico, they back their fighters and show up. Whether it be in MSG or on the Island. Until Cubans and Cuban/Americans do the same thing, we won't see Cubans on the world stage unless they are incredible talents like Rigo.

Lara has been a well kept secret as well, I mean the dude is a beast and most people never heard of him. Canelo really did him a huge favor in taking this fight man, if he beats Canelo, he puts his name out there for sure.

Thats exactly how I meant it. It made sense to me and it was the first word that came to mind. Idk why lol. I said it just to talk some smack. Didnt think anyone would take it like you did.

I have my theories about some of this. As with all theories, there are holes. I do believe, however, that the whole communist experience caused a rift we may not see healed in our lifetimes. The few Cubans in the US are distant from the island in both birth and culture. Guys like Rigo and Lara aren't viewed by most Cubans as "one of us." It's tough to get behind someone you don't relate to quite enough. If Cuba becomes a democracy (who knows when that'll happen?), I can see the islanders going nuts for their native sons. Until that day, there won't be any backing to speak of from US-Cubans.

Its not just Cubans. Im assuming youre talking about the Marlins? When a team is losing nobody wants to go watch. Its like that for every fanbase/sport. Jaguars are one good example. They were giving out free beer just to get butt on the seats.
