This is the problem. If the Cubans themselves can't be obligated to rally behind their compatriot to generate the numbers, why would they even expect non-Cubans to do it for them?
Only Cubans could solve this promotional nightmare Rigo is experiencing. There's nobody else.
If I remember correctly, Sergio Martinez had the same problem. But his handlers, at least, did something about it, finally; if you remember Sergio's involvement on anti-bullying and violence against women, which was part of SM's makeover. It did very little, but at least they tried. Rigo's handlers are lazy as ****. They expect TR to do everything for them.
At the end of the day, the main promoter is the boxer himself. A guy like Broner promotes himself well both inside and outside the ring, regardless of the means.
I don't know from where he get those numbers because I was there, they didn't use the whole Arena but a good portion of it, I was at the Orange Bowl to see Arguello and 90% of the crow was Cuban, we love Arguello and Duran, by that time Napoles, Legra and Ultiminio were out of the picture, there some new fans that hasn't grasp the concept just yet, they just repeating the same crap that they hear, how do you know how is going to be if they don't show the fighters here, the promoters are full of $h1t and some fa boys are eating it...
A while back, I read an article in which Arum claimed that he had difficulty promoting Gamboa to the White Cuban population in Florida because they were reluctant to embrace a Black Cuban fighter. He pointed out how Arguello was able to gain a big following with that community, yet many Cuban fighters never received the same level of support. I dunno about the validity of that claim as Arum is generally full of crap and I'm not too familiar with racial dynamics within that community.

Arum doesn't know anything of Cubans. He doesn't want to work anymore, that's the problem.
Miami fans love their sports team and will come to megafights
Arum has also had him on 3 big PPVs and against Donaire. There is simply no boxing support for cubans or anybody in florida, there just isnt. Give me 1 card or fighter who drew even a decent crowd in Florida
Bob Arum and ONLY Bob Arum is Rigo's biggest problem....it's HIS job to make sure the Cuban fans know they have a GREAT fighter....thats called promotion, you know, that job that promoters are SUPPOSED to do!!
The Campbell vs Funkea/Angulo vs Rivera/Martinez vs Cintron tripple header had a decent showing of 10,000. Angulo vs Mayorga was originally supposed to be the main event though before Mayorga pulled out a couple weeks before the fight. But who knows how many comps.
I specifically remember that they gave away a ton of tickets.
