I have an obvious bias for Rigo, but that same bias makes me sensitive to Guillermo's shortcomings. If he fails to perform as I think he should, I feel it more deeply than with most other fighters. The only thing I felt he could've improved upon in this fight was by going harder for the kill in the twelfth. Even that is a minor quibble.

I was/am proud of the performance "El Chacal" logged in this bout. He boxed like the master he is and won a major encounter with a highly ranked fighter. Could the fight have been more exciting? Certainly. But boring it was not.

      • It's obvious HBO is trying to prop up European and East Asian fighters now, because their network is devoid of African American and Mexican talent. I'm sure in the next 18 months they'll try to introduce MMA to their subscribers, because their rapidly losing their boxing fan base.

Rigo contract should be sold to 50 cent, and then moved on to Floyd so he can at least have an opportunity to shine before its too late. Lombardo and Pelper were instrumental in the Greenberg situation, and to allow a has been Top Rank shill like Hauser take a "advisory" role, shows just how far this network has fallen behind the times in regards to the sport.

These guys were making money hand over fist, now they are in danger of losing the record of highest grossing PPV of all time....

        Incredible .

        • For the masses Rigo's style is boring. He has to be matched up against an action fighter.

PPL don't know who he is and the few fights that he has been in have been stinkers.

He doesn't have a crowd pleasing style. All he can do now is to keep winning against top opposition so he will become the man to beat in the division

Is he an artisan at the game of boxing? Yes but that does not translate into casual fans..HBO and Showtime both are not catering to the going 12 rounds of boxing unless it's two sluggers doing it. I said this in the Maidana thread, Slugfest gets people watching and talking and this is a business. They held Donaire vs Rigo at the smallest venue of all in nyc (with the exception of the beacon theatre.) because tens of thousands of people are not going to pay to see Rigo no matter how dominant he is for 12 rounds..if you aren't knocking folks out you aren't pulling in ratings..Mayweather is an anomally simply because people are hoping each fight is the one he loses and the day he loses if he loses I bet you he will have to become offensive minded or risk losing huge purses as well.

Bob Arum knew HBO never wanted Rigo so why give him a new deal with top rank? Now Arum need to let Rigo fight GBP guys and UK guys so he can end his top rank contract

                • Just watched the fight again - it's awesome.
People gonna be sour, can't help it - but seriously, who gives a ****? As long as we get fights like these, boxing is far from dead.

There's no DLH in his division. Add another boring Rigo to the mix, aarrggh...

Donaire is the DLH in his division. He managed to make a name for himself on his own and everyone wants a piece of whatever he got and take it away from him just like that. You'd wonder why they can't make a name for themselves without using another one's name.

Rigo got what he wanted. He's supposed to be on his own now and start making waves. You don't need a DLH all your boxing life. Do something. Promote yourself. Smile a lot. Go to Hispanic talk shows. Raise funds for the homeless or something...

Awesome to read this. You're obviously a real boxing fan, with an appreciation for the sport that transcends personal taste.
